I'm considering re-speccing my mage. I've always been frost, but am interested in something different. I don't raid with her much, since she is an alt, but would like her to be able to put out good dps in a raid. Should I go fire? Arcane? 2/48/11 is your best bet for raid DPS.
However, and not to be rude, but what level raids are we talking here? Because even for kara you have really low +dmg. I'd work on that ASAP if you wanna do anything with her.

Thanks, I took her into kara with my guild tonight, since we pretty much DE everything anyway. She picked up a few new items and held her own...even managed to take over strawman when our firemage died...he is an easy kill though. Thanks for the advice, I'll try that...now I'll need to learn new spells and spell rotations...*sigh*
how did fire mage die? was he not just spamming scorch? did he throw a fireball or pyroblast in there?

No, I think Toto didn't get picked up soon enough or something and that is what killed her...strawman certainly didn't. :)
If you plan on being a serious raider, you'll need to respec back to and forth depending on where you end up going (post T4 content especially). Getting a good an understanding in both fire and frost will only pay off in the long run. If you have a spriest to help with mana, you might even want to consider trying your hand at arcane.

With low amounts of spell damage, I'd actually respec to 40/21/0 (or 40/0/21 if so inclined) until you hit around 800+ spell damage unbuffed. Then you can switch to the deep fire raiding build (see sticky) and be more effective.

I'm in the same boat, but you have somewhat better gear.
I'm choosing to go deep Arcane to get the increase spell damage. You seem to be in a guild that can handle slightly lower DPS until you get all your gear. For me - I'm taking the deep arcane and working getting a full set of Spellfire.

If it's an alt, spec whatever you want to have fun with. It seems your guild has Karazhan under control and you'll pick up stuff in there to help you out. You do have some decent stuff. Kara is hardly hard anymore, I wouldn't even fret about spell damage or hit. Pity you weren't a tailor though, the spellfire set is nice to have.
