Which skills do I put points into first?Follow

#1 Jun 23 2008 at 5:36 PM Rating: Decent
2 questions (1) Which spec is the most used for leveling (Ie: easiest) and where should I be putting my points in first? (Ie: First 10 points, where should they go?)

It is best leveling in Arms/Fury spec, as tank spec does less damage and so takes long to gain exp.

i would say start of with Heroic Strike then Imp Rend then possibly Cruelty

Improved Rend is a terrible waste of points. After level 20 or so, rend loses it's charm and should be taken out of regular rotation (only used in PvP to keep a rogue from vanishing or to make sure someone can't bandage).

For leveling, improving your heroic strike and/or parry are the way to go if you want to level as arms. If you are going fury, I like this build as something to build up to 40 (for 2-handers, not dual wield). The second tier is personal preference, but Unbridled Wrath is not as impressive with a slow weapon as two faster weapons. This build is based on using a heavy-hitting 2-handed weapon and (after 30) hitting your 0.5 sec Slam after every auto-attack.

However you decide to level, remember that there's the ability to pay to refund your talent points at any point in the game. Part of the leveling process is learning your class and what abilities are worth improving through talents. It also may change over time, so don't be afraid to pick up a talent that works for now but will be useless later (other than improved rend... it becomes obsolete very, very fast).

Slam is too complicated and difficult for a first time character. Yes, you can learn how to do it fairly easily, but whats the point when you are first running through the game?

Personally, I would decide if you want a two handed weapon or dual wield. Either way, put the first 5 points into Cruelty for a huge boost to crit chance. Then, if you are dual wielding, go down the Fury tree and be sure to pick up Flurry and the dual wield talent. Putting a few points into parry or improved heroic strike can make it easier, but its ultimately up to you if you have to slow down the rate you get the later talents.

That just really isn't true.

Prot spec takes longer to kill a single mob. But prot spec (particularly as you get deeper into the tree) becomes progressively less and less down-time compared to arms and fury. Further, the increased damage reduction and protection abilities you'll use by being in def stance with a shield means that multiple mob pulls are no issue at all to live through.

The result is that while a prot spec tank will take much longer to kill a mob, the prot spec tank will have less down-time between mobs, and far fewer corpse runs. Over-all leveling ability is about the same.

It's really a matter of play style. But any notion that the prot tree is slower than the others for leveling is really pretty well dated.

Go up the fury tree tell you get imp slam. get a nice 2h. use heroic strike tell lvl 30. don't use rend after about lvl 15 or so, it's a waste of rage. don't ever spec imp rend, it's a waste of talent points.

Once you hit lvl 30, get berserker stance, and you get the slam ability.

Slam is by far one of the best skills a leveling warrior has.

Lvl 10-14 Cruelty
14-19 Unbridled wrath
20-22 blood craze (helps with downtime and tanking)
23-24 commanding presence
25-29 enrage
30-31 imp slam
32 sweeping strikes
33-34 weapon mastery
35-39 flurry

At 40, respeccing arms is an option if you have good gear. MS takes a lot of rage to generate solid dps. Slam is better.

I know I keep posting these slam > everything else posts. But it's underrated by many scrub warriors.

the easiest way to do it is go down the fury tree like devious said.

get a swing timer mod like attackbar or quartz and learn how to swing > slam > swing > slam. there's a string of slow 2H weapons that are cheap and easy to obtain that'll take you from level 30-58+

then at level 40 you have to decide between a mortal strike or a bloodthirst build. if you're on a pvp server, mortal strike is really the only choice.

in actuality, imp rend is great at lower levels.... but it takes a certain playstyle that does not really come naturally:

1. sword and board - no 2H or dw here
2. pull 2 mobs, rend them both
3. heroic down the first, re-rend the second, pull a third and rend him too
4. heroic down the second, re-rend the third, pull a fourth and rend him too

by keeping 2-3 mobs on you, you get tons of rage, by keeping them all rended you actually do decent dps.... at the lower levels....

oh yeah, you're gonna want to max out first aid to do this too lol

i lot of suggestions for 2H leveling here, which is fine, but you should also consider dual-wield fury. slam is definitely a viable spec, but you really need to get a swing timer, and you have to like the playstyle.

i tried it, but it didn't appeal to me much. leveling fury and dual-wielding has been a breeze for my latest toon. the first few tiers of the fury tree are pretty much the same, so try playing with both weapons types and see what you like best. i would not ever spec improved rend...it's pretty awesome for about 15-20 levels, then it bites.

and leveling as prot... well, my main is a prot warrior, and i leveled him the whole way as prot. unless you plan to spend 75%+ of your time tanking, don't do it until at least level 50 - that's when it becomes a viable soloing spec.
