I'm resisting the temptation to flame because I can't tell if you are serious or not.

I'll assume you are.

Are you talking about PvE or PvP? PvP - not really in Arenas, not a bad finisher in BG's. PvE - yes, it might be the single most important talent in the combat tree. In instances/raids, most of your damage is white, and having the imp. SnD is what your damage cycles are based on (but it sounds like you aren't aware that there is an actual rotation involving your SnD to max time/usage/dps). Are you aware of Rupture?

So I guess it's back to square one.

Do you know about your cycles? If not, there is a sticky.
Are you using your cycles correctly? If not, there is a sticky.
What maximizes your damage cycles? Yep, a sticky.
Should you be using swords or daggers? Sticky for that too.

Point - read stickies, then ask questions.

not having slice n dice up when you on a healer is a waste of your effort, just fire off a 1pt at least

you arent gonna kill em in 3 seconds, might as well maximize dps for the long haul

Yes.

Honestly, I was a newb and didn't pick this up the first time around because I didn't use it as well. I definitely gimped myself. Since I had started using it (and picking up the points), my dps is a whole lot better, and I've finally got the rotation down.

If you're not using Slice 'n dice you might as well be playing a fury warrior.

Even fury warriors have flurry.

Fixed. ;)

But seriously, one of the most important pieces of the PvE rotation for maximum DPS.

SnD is one of the best finishers rogues have.

Extra CPs in arena after EA is up on a clothie and rupture is up on a leather class/plate class?

SnD.

Switching targets that so you can shiv?

SnD points off main target -> shiv crip on peel target -> SnD point off -> get back on main target.

SnD is highly underused.

I'll have to agree with everything said in this thread about the importance of SnD in raids, instances, PvP, etc. The OP, however, never told us what he was looking for. If you're making a leveling build, it's not as important (depending on if you plan on running instances much). At 70, it belongs in pretty much any build.

So does SnD add to itself? ie: if I get a 3 point SnD, and then switch and get a 1 point SnD, what happens to the duration of the buff? Obviously the 1 point SnD is shorter, so if there was more time left on the buff would you lose time?

#11REDACTED, Posted: Jun 24 2008 at 7:22 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It does add to it. Say you have 5 seconds left on SnD, if you add another 2 pts, which say...equates to 13 seconds, you're have 18 seconds of SnD on the timer. (my times are probably off because I can never remember how many pts = seconds. I just have a rotation....>_>)

rate this guy down.

it does not add.
lets say you have 3 CPs and your SnD counter is at 25. if you hit SnD, 3 CPs will be less time than 25 seconds, so you get the 'more powerful spell active' error i believe. even if you dont, bottom line is it wont work or it will waste your CPs and set your timer LOWER.
when you use it, it sets the timer = to whatever the # of combo points gives you, regardless of whether your higher or lower.

if it just added, we would be spamming 1-CP SnDs to add 12 seconds to timer every 6 seconds at the start of a boss fight then never have to worry about a rotation again.

EnthalpyTheBurninator believes correctly on the first part. It resets the timer (and only if it would reset it to longer than the current timer). It doesn't waste your cps, it just doesn't activate.

Sorry about that, you guys are absolutely right.

I see where I went wrong though. Since I always have SnD up, when it's got 15 seconds left, for example, I've sometimes hit a 5 pt SnD, and never really thought about how that factored into it. In my mind it equated to adding seconds to SnD, when it was really just resetting the time to a higher amount. But I just re-tested it to see what does happen and as digitalcraft said, it doesn't reset the timer or use CPs, it says a more powerful spell is already activated.

So again, sorry for the mistake.
