Making a ShammyFollow

#1 Jun 22 2008 at 8:04 PM Rating: Decent
Ok so I decided to give the alliance a try so I'm planning on rolling a new char. I want a class that is needed in Raids but I don't want to be a healbot (made my pally on horde side a healer and now I can't find any tanks so it was pointless.) Now I was curious if ele shammies are really needed in raids, do they supply enough dps to be chosen over other classes? Or will I just be forced to spec Resto to get any raid action? Also if I am to choose ele should I begin putting points in early or should I spec enhance to level until a certain level? I'm kinda lost atm and if anyone can decipher this partial rant and give me some answers I would be very thankful.

On a last note. I told my friend I was thinking about making an ele shammy and he told me to just make a mage......any advice why an ele shammy would be better?

Ok lets start with a question, why on earth you desided to make a new char on opposite side than your main is? Wouldn't you think it's little easier to help ur shaman/whatever if you had them on same side and even in same guild eventually?

Wanna get into raids? Make a tank ON HORDE where u already have a healer. Raids will always need restoshamans and I haven't found any class/specc what aint good enough in raids at some point. Later on u maybe have to spec paladin to resto or prot to keep raiding (not you, but in general) but still early all speccs are welcome.

Why dont you make another hybrid class like druid so you can again start to tank OR go boomkin? As shaman u are most welcome to raids also as enhacement in melee group. But if those alpha talents are going to look like that..... There will be a lot pushing for resto.

But still I'm confused about decision to switch on ally side to level up new char. U never get them both on same guild and u can never say "hold on, I relog on my healer so I can join as different class/spec on your raid/instance".

Probably because they said they wanted to give alliance a try?

Seriously though, I haven't seen an elemental in raids (yet), but then again, I'm sure there are plenty out there. We've got an enhanced shammy raiding with us, and is never made to respec resto.

Elemental shammies can do a great deal of damage if played and geared right. When playing from 60-70 as elemental, I was always on top of the damage charts.

Honestly, a lot of people will say level enhancement because it's the quickest way to level, but I found from 60-70 that levelling elemental was pretty much the same. I didn't have a lot of downtime as a lot of people say. Now it may be just because I levelled enhancement from 1-60 and then elemental from 60-70, that it seems the same (since I don't know about lower levelling as elemental). Level whatever way you want. If you're not in a terrible hurry to get to 70, go ahead and put points into elemental. If you want to get to 70 as quickly as possible, go enhancement (as others will say).

Besides range damage (as a mage), I think the only other thing a mage can do is that they actually have a cc and the ability to make their own water.
