I'm sure this has been done before but I'm going to post my talent tree and my planned relearn of talents and why I want to do this. Please comment on my choices and add a link to your elemental shaman and why you've chosen what you did... WoWLK not in consideration.

That is my current spec (did it just starting out without any sound reasons...started playing in January and had no idea).

Thinking about this one:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shaman/talents.html

It may be PvP oriented but I like the instant GW as well as keeping my shield on to buy me more time spamming LB's...

Thanks!

Dread, are you planning on raiding or doing PvP?

Nature's swiftness is a must-have for elemental PvP, it is your only panic button atm. You won't be getting instant GW with this build, but almost every elemental shaman takes NS for the instant CL + EM + NS opener in arena.

Doesn't Natures swiftness require 20 points in Resto? How would I get that?

My thought process on GW was that I could get it and still keep the crucial Elemental talents. GW as an instant cast would help me run out of bad situations and give me time to heal and re-enter the battle. Please elaborate 'cause I feel like I might be missing something.

FTR, I'm doing BG's to get some decent gear and then hit the heroics and raids to get the next higher sets available. I have another thread discussing my elemental shaman choices as a new 70 and pretty much decided to get the thunderfist gear and then do dungeons...

I am looking at GW is my "out" of bad situations and it could help me a bit in WSG and EoS for Flag captures.

Thanks for the response!

I think you probably answered me with the above abbreviations but I'm sorry as I haven't quite learned them all...

I know that NS is Natures Resistance but what is the instant CL + EM + NS opened mean?

EM - Elemental Mastery, CL - Chain Lightning.

It's common practice for a lot of elemental shamans to use a +damage trinket, then a macro that casts EM + NS then chain lightning as an opener/finisher in arena or BG's.

I think if you plan to PvP, NS will be far more useful to you than instant GW. Once you're snared, instant GW won't help you get away, and it quickly gets dispelled anyhow. In a BG, a shaman is a pretty poor flag runner anyway, you're far better as offensive/defensive support/harasser. Run around, purge everything in sight, drop earthbinds and groundings, try to CL or LB crit people who have low health. If you check, most successful elemental shamans spec 40/0/21 to get nature's swiftness.

Thanks, you have been very helpfull! Unfortunately, I don't see anything that motivates me to run the 21 points in Resto; why does NR do anything special... I do know that I get killed because I can't break Sap, stun, et all is this the thing that does that for us? That would be great.

I only PvP right now to get my gear up and then to be in higher end instance/raids... My experience coming up as a shaman (noob) hasn't made me at all anxious to do Arena.

Well...NS is more than enough reason to go into the resto tree. NS coupled with EM and a CL crit can be quite devastating in a BG/arena.

Other things in the resto tree are still decent...Nature's Guidance +3% hit with spells, Tidal mastery +5% crit with spells is huge, totemic mastery is great (bigger radius for tremor and grounding totems).

Anyway, play how you want man, I'm just letting you know how myself and the majority of elemental shamans spec for PvP. If you prefer to go elemental/enhance, more power to you, I just think the resto tree has better synergy with elemental.

Well i could not load up your build you linked but the main level 70 builds that work are these

PvE
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=hEczVoMsAotZxoez0x
PvP A
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=hAczVfMoqsxZxcbt0Lo
PvP B
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=hAczVfMoqsxZxcbt0Lo

some talents are more preference but you get the point.

Also in my opinion the NS+EM+CL combo is not that great I prefer EM+CL then NS+LB then ES for a heavy triple combo to do some really sick damage in a short amount of time. This is even better if you sneak in a Fire Nova Totem prior in a short period of time you can put out 5000 damage easy with crappy gear.

Pay attention to posts =D
NS is not resistance. NS is Natures swiftness and it makes your next cast instant! So u can instantly cast Chain lightning or what ever.

Dread, PvP gear won't help you for raiding. If you want to raid, run instances and quest/rep grind for the gear you need. Also, if you plan to raid as elemental, you should be rolling with a build like this: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=hy0uVbMsAotZxoez0x

Ele shamans can and is effecitve in PVE raids using PVP gear, at least, up to T5 and early T6 content.
Currently, the PVP gear is better than what you can get in heroics and Kara even.

Just checkout the list from the link (oboards) I've posted some time ago with all the associated weightage. U will understand why.

BTW, I thought EM and NS now share a cooldown and thus an instant cast crit CL opener is no longer as before?

Yes and no. For casters PvP gear is a good source of spell crit and a decent source of spell damage, but is extremely heavy on stam and resilliance, extremely light on int and MP5, and completely devoid of haste. Basically, PvP gear is going to help you do great damage, but your longevity will suck and you're likely going to have to chug mana pots every time they're off cooldown if you're doing some of the longer raid boss fights entirely in PvP gear.

With the exception of weapons it's always better to prefer PvE gear when and where you can get it if you're a caster. Use PvP as a gear patch to improve the slots you haven't gotten your PvE raid drops or BoJ purchases for.

PvP gear is fine all elemetal shaman needs is crit to perform well, mana pool is meaningless and mana regen while beneficial is still behind crit.

For a elemental shaman gearing up for crit I would say the belt boots bracers neck and the badge cape are all great pieces for pve. The S1 is only ok but make decent placeholders for better stuff and offer a powerful set bonus which can be quite useful.

It does lack haste but I would say thats any elemental shaman trying to get PvE gear and resorts to pvp probably just hit 70 and should be focused on upping crit before considering haste which takes a while to stack up.

No...that proposed change was removed as elemental shamans hit the roof on the o-forums and spammed anti-kalgan and anti-blizzard messages for a week.
