Working on 40!Follow

#1 Jun 20 2008 at 5:50 AM Rating: Decent
Hello everyone. I'm working on level 40. Should have it in the next couple of days. Currently 33 almost 34. Just wanted to know what gear I should be looking for at level 40. Mail or stick with leather. Also is it a good idea to stay in BM tree or do I need to respec. This is my current build:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunter/talents.html?tal=5300020052401200000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Strictly soloing right now. Do I stick with dual wield or is there a decent 2h that I can find for my level or a later level. I thank you all for your help and replies.

Ok, as far as choosing armor, if you can find mail items that are better than what you currently wear, then buy it. If you can't find anything better then theres no reason to waste money buying items 5-10 levels lower than you just so you can have mail "of the falcon". I think I used a leather head piece until 52, so theres no rush.

Second, there is really no reason to respec from BM, It is viewed as the best for leveling and damage output.

As far as weapons go, generally unless you can find two one-handed weapons that have better stats combined than a two-handed weapon, you should stick with a two-hander. It gives better burst damage, meaning if your pet loses aggro, you can get one big hit off as you wing clip.

hope that helps.

I would not worry to much about it , Mail is good but Leather tends to have more agility , I spent a small fortune on armour with my first Hunter but have since realised that it is quite possible to survive and kill above my level with all my alts just on what drops for me or with quest rewards , If you have the gold then go for anything with Agility in mail as that has better armour and as hunters level so fast i see no real point in spending loads of gold to keep up as you will be changing it at every few levels.

Get the best long range weapon you can it does not matter if bow/gun or even crossbow , if you have enough spare gold get a sight on it as that adds good extra damage and will save you buying another weapon for a few levels.

As i levelled my first hunter i tried all weapons and melee is not something you want to do , go for the best stats instead of a damage weapon , Two handers tend to have better stats in agility and stamina , I would just stick with anything that is a reasonable price and with good stats and only change it when you find something with far better stats.

As for Beast Master you are just getting into the real fun stage so i would stay with it while you level , you will not regret it for solo use , but the other trees can also be fun as i am sure others will say , but to me they are best at high level.

Your build looks reasonable so far to me but i am sure others may add something to that.

The Scorpid armor is really good and while there are some better individual pieces, it's pretty much the best set in the 40's range. Avoid the heavy scorpid stuff it's not as good as other things coming in the late 40's through early 50's. You can get a buddy to make the scorpid stuff (LW's are frequently looking to level up in that range) or buy it on the AH if it's reasonable on your server.

Grimlok's Charge out of Ulda. Get a friend to run you through the back door and it shouldn't take more than a few minutes/kill. Stick Savagery on it and it will last you well past 60. He drops some very nice leather pants too, iirc.

The stickies will have a lot of information for you. Don't worry about mail or leather, just take whatever upgrades your stats. Use whatever build you want. Also link builds from wowhead, they don't crash my browser.

Thanks so much for all the replies and mail armor is expensive as heck. I make pretty decent money. Level 35 and sitting at 400+g. I don't spend much at all lol. What I also needed help with was my action bar. What should I have set up for soloing. Something that will make it easier for me to use instead of searching for it then dieing lol. You guys are awsome and I read the stickie all the time. How I found the quest for level 35 legs in Gnomer. :D

The action bars can be a pain to set up , I found that i used very few things anyway so i set mine as top bar with traps and pet heal , and lower bar with the standard auto shot and then a selection of what i preferred , just keep it as simple as possible would be my advice , you could also start to use macros if that makes life easier for you if you use the keyboard to select shots just set it so its easy to remember which key does what effect..

Hope that helps ?

Ah yes, Triprunner Dungarees.
It took ages before I replaced those on my hunter. Well into the 40s (and may have even been longer).

I have reached level 40 :D. YEY! finally. Hunter's level fast. And what they are able to solo amazes me. Got me a set of armor for level 42 and wow was it expensive. On Aerie Peak I noticed the leather was just as much as mail pieces. Mail being a tad bit more. So I mixed it up and got a good set. I'm going 2h cause well dual wield isn't working. Mob closes in and I miss way more then I wish I did.

Wanted to know if now is a good time to start on MM tree or just finish up my BM. This is my current solo build as of now. http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunter/talents.html?tal=5300020052501224000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Was a battle but as the higher levels were duking it out i just said the heck with it. Went for it and got the trinket and some silver. Oh and the level 45 arena bracers. :D Now to *coughs* get 11 more lol.

Grats on the quick leveling. Do you want to see as much content as possible or are you trying to get to 70?

If you want to see all the content, seek out the gear in the instances at your current level, run them over and over and you will be uber at your level. Not to mention you will learn hunter play in groups, which can be challenging.

If you want to get to 70 and get all the stuff in the sticky, then don't worry about item upgrades at all. You will replace ALL of it in 2 days of Outland questing and a few cheap AH 60+ greens.

I used grimlocks(polearm mentioned earlier) and guttbuster(gun) until 60 and (both replaced in first 2 hours in helllfire). Although, I would now buy a higher DPS green bow every couple of levels and do the BG quest for the polearm when you become eligible(50 something). I will look it up and let you know the name and level.

Very easy is it? What do you have to do?
I have a warrior in the early fifties, and it would do him the world of good.
He still has the Whirlwind Axe from the class quest.

You still have to pick up the quest I think, before getting that win. It's not in the questrewards, but I know I didn't get it until I had done that quest.

These are the quests.

"The Battle of Alterac" (win AV bg)
Enter Alterac Valley, defeat the Horde general Drek'thar, and then return to Prospector Stonehewer in the Alterac Mountains.
Defeat Drek'thar.

"Hero of Stormpike" (get the reward)
As a hero of the Stormpike, you may choose one item from these recently plun... er, recovered treasures.

There is also a decent crossbow - BLOODSEEKER which might be the best quest reward here for a lvl 51 hunter.

Yeah I'm going to 70 with my hunter. Is there a place a level 41-almost 42 can grind and get good drops. My prof's are mining/skinning. Until I ding 43 and can finish up the quests in Stranglegnome Vale. I really appreciate all the help guys. I have add ons such as quest helper, Atlas Loot, Baud Bag, and Cartographer. Quest helper isn't showing any current quests because i guess i'm not high enough to do them lol. Amazing what quests I can do being a hunter. Also is there a site I can go to and get some shot rotation macros to lighten up my action bars.

There are no shot rotation macros until you hit 62.

For area to go for, generally areas indicate their level range on the map. My suggestion would be go to one that fits your level. Smiley: oyvey

I used James alliance leveling guide with no quest helper to level. I now have carbonite and can't understand why I gimped myself for so long. Google the guide and follow it, the benefit is that it runs you through quests that are worth time and effort for exp and skips long useless chains that have you running all over the place. Follow the guide from your current level and you can do 2-3 levels a day easy. Your quest helper will just make it that much easier. Also guides written before 2.3 are based on the pre-nerfed experience necessary for leveling, so you can mostly skip instances as they will not level you as quickly.

Thank you all so much. Thanks to the stickie and the replies. I'm on the right track to 70. :D
