Just a fun post.

I have two buddies in the guild who are impressed with hunters, so they made hunter alts. They have leveled to 70 and have started going through instances to gear up for Kara and stuff. I pointed them here for the pre raid gear list and other things. I gave them their spec and 3:2 macro that works so well! I will say that they Are both in good greens and some blues with a few epics.

Anyway, the three of us where wanted as DPS for a GruUl/Mag run. As the group was gathering I saw three other hunters there for a total of 6 hunters. Kind of a lot for a 25 man. The other hunters out-geared even me so I was afraid we would get a little embarrased on the charts. Pulls start and we are doing good. No wipes, smooth run, great tanks and heals. A very enjoyable run. At the end of Gruul i am at the top of the charts and my two friends are 3 and 4 on the damage chart!!!! i was so proud of them!

We head to Mag and 20 minutes later he is dead and I have my T4 chest! My hunter friends are 4 and 6 here. I am happy (and sad) to say that they smoked the other hunters. Granted the others had an ***'d up spec and where obviously not using any macro. I wish I had a WWS of the fight, I beat my old record and was at 1335 DPS, both of my friends in greens and blues where above 850dps.

Tho moral of this silly story is to read and pay attention to what is said here. This site, TKA, and Elitist allowed me to properly teach two hunters to overcome gear restraints and still kick ***!

Skill > synergy > spec > gear.

Being good is pretty borng though.... topping the dps meters as SV leaves no challenge.

In raiding situations, I'd say that it's more Knowledge than Skill- for hunters at least. Our big "utility" in 10-25 man raids is to MD the tank, and that doesn't take any skill at all. I have a pretty good understanding of gear and shot rotation. I go in to a raid, and start mashing my mouse wheel to get that "perfect" 3:2 rotation (or the perfect 1:1 priority in Hyjal). I move out of the fire and hit mend pet every so often, and by time the fights are over, I'm #1.

But yeah, replacing "skill" with "knowledge," I'd strongly agree with what Aethien says.

If you're topping damage meters as SV, all that means is that pretty much everyone in the raid is bad. where the heck are your rogues and locks? not to mention the other BM hunters.

More to the point, lads and ladies, skill isn't the end-all be-all of a Hunter. What the hell kind of skill does it take to stand still and roll your macro with your mousewheel? What kind of skill does it take to specc properly? Skill is ******** in a PvE conversation.

Knowledge > skill...

Knowledge is what I rely on when I hit any raid. It's what makes me set up my keyboard/mouse setup accordingly. It's what makes me read up on tactics and my own job. It's what's important in any Hunter discussion. Knowledge is the alpha and omega when you head out for an unknown encounter. Skill is irrelevant in a PvE setting, since a retarded monkey throwing ***** at a keyboard can achieve this in PvE WoW.

Skill is when you can spend a nanosecond registering information on your screen and react to it. It's when you can anticipate another human players moves and counteract them accordingly. It's when you can instantly predict and react to anything that your opponent can come up with. In a PvE game like WoW, that's nonexistent. You get huge warnings in the chat, raid, screen popups or whatever whenever something happens. It's not skill that makes me toss a Tranq in ZA. It's knowledge. It's not skill that allows me to predict any action a mob can throw at me, it's knowledge. The reactions to said actions? Not skill, knowledge.

Skill is a factor in contests where each side is provided with the perfectly same challenges and you win. Skill is when you can beat an opponent which is equal to yourself in all other factors.

I don't go into any raid confident of my skill. I am armed with knowledge and that is what takes down my enemy. Skill is merely a secondary concern which only kicks in when my opponent is as knowledgeable as myself. Which is extremely rare in a PvE environment. So stop consider yourself skilled. You are merely well-read compared to your peers...

And for the people who read the first and last post on a forum: North agreed with me without quoting or acknowledging me.

But I would say that there is some skill in some PvE situations. Haven't you ever done a 5-man with a healer that throws a HoT on the tank before the tank even takes any damage? It takes a little more than just knowledge to save that priest's ***. Trapping one and popping intimidation on another like it was all part of the plan is a good way to make a good name for yourself.

Skill is definately a factor, I have played with a balance druid that could keep up with my dps as BM, and I know I'm good.
Theoretically I should have blown him away, yet he always managed to stay pretty damn close.

And yeah, I left the guild where i topped meters as SV, Now i'm usually 4th-6th as it should be.

As for what you say about knowledge, I can use the same arguments for that as you did for skill, any ***** throwning monkey can learn fights.
It's not like it's hard to read up on fights or anything.

The only real challenge in raiding is the teamplay and being able to cooperate with people without talking.

If skill wasnt a factor, but only knowledge is than why doesnt everybody just kill bosses on the first try?

Would you say that the Dexterous gloves from Attunmen are better than T4 Aethien?

yeah, and i kept them over T5 too.

edit: that is for Sv ofcourse, with 35 agi + 2x 8 agi gems + 15 agi enchant they give a whopping 66 agility.
Or 75.9 agility after LR.
If you go expensive with 10 agi gems, it´s even up to 80.5 agility after LR.
Even T6 doesnt have that much agility.
(60 agility with a 10 agi gem, 69 after LR.)

T5 only manages 49 agility, and even though they offer a lot of ~hit, as Sv that´s never an issue.

Cool, I was thinking about heading back to SV after my guild clear T5 content. Just a thought though, I and one of the three raiding hunters in my guild as well.
