Hey guys thanks for dealing with my noob questions and being patient.... I am loving my mage and just dinged 21 last night and have an idea what kind of build (arcane/fire) I am going to use for PvP. The only thing I am wanting to know is if its wrong to not have macros and titanpanel? I do not lag alot for the clicking aspect but at the same time I am thinking right now its not hurting me to use titanpanel and macros at this lvl in teh game. Is it going to hurt me in the future in PvP if I am not using macros and titanpanel? I like to think I am not the only clicker in this game but ....its been 3 or 4 years since I have played it sucks being noob again...also if someone can tell me how macros work ....they are very confusing to me but then again I havent spent much time on them.. But on a side note I am loving being a fire mage(***** crowd control....I want CRIT) and thanks for the advice fellow mages!

titanpanel is not that big of a deal, all it does is add extra information at the top/bottom of your screen (i personally use FuBar)

Macros are there to simply do multiple commands in the game for you at once.

For instance:

/stopcasting
/cast Fire Blast

will stop whatever you are doing and cast fireblast without letting the current spell finish. You can find a lot of helpful macros on www.wowwiki.com

I do not think that you will be 'gimping' yourself per-say, but I would definitely work towards using the keyboard buttons (I use 1-6 and shift+1-6) everything else is not as important and I click it.

At your level it is not very vital to have macros, but starting now gives you an idea which ones you may want later on. For example in later levels you, as arc/fire, you will want to macro AP/PoM/Pyro with a trinket also perhaps. A macro would be very important here so that you can activate those 3 abilities and cast Pryo all simultaneously. Clicking separately allows an opportunity for your opponent to silence, CC, or counter the sequence you are putting together. AP in particular has a very distinctive sound and animation that screams "Sheep me now!" in a BG. Also, a huge benefit for marcos is to save hot key space when you start running out of slots on your action bar.

I would really suggest you start trying to learn how to use the number keys to cast. Your not really gimping yourself right now by not using them as mobs are easy to kill at your level, and you dont have too many spells. However in the future, mobs will require quicker reactions, and you will have a lot more spells on your bar.

The reason for switching is simple, your learning bad habbits. I mean you could feasible click for the rest of the game, and still kill mobs and be fine, but you WILL BE BETTER if you learn to use the number keys. Also a good trick to learn is using tab to select what mob your attacking.

I will definitely say start keybinding early as well. never keybound with my priest, can't get into it now, even though all my other characters are.

Don't just limit yourself to the normal keys either. Most people say 1-6 and shift1-6. I use 2, 3, 4, R, T, F. It's easier for me to play with those keys than with 1-6.
