Clickers = noobs?Follow

#1 Jun 18 2008 at 11:39 AM Rating: Default
I have been playing WoW on and off for a good 3 or 4 years now and have been running BGs, instances and raids from as soon as I could get in them. My main is a 70 BM hunter with a mix of t4, Kara, Gruuls, Mags and badge epics, along with two blues I'm desperately trying to get rid of (Aldor ring and the Hourglass of the Unraveller). I normally get in the top 5 of the damage/DPS charts in whatever raid I get into and am normally the number 1 in damage in Kara.

The thing is... I dont use ANY macros. Or key bindings, save spamming "3" for steady shot. I have been a clicker since I've started WoW and on all of my characters I am still a clicker through and through. The main question I want answered is this:

Is my damage/DPS being lowered because of my clicky habits?

Depends on your lag, and what rotation you are using. You should be using keybinds and macros, as they are readily available tools that will make you a better player. Not using them is gimping yourself.

In PvP, if you click you suck.

North, why are you posting in every thread that I'm posting in? You're just waiting until I ***** up, right?

In Pvp, my hunter does suck. :\

My twink is good though. Normally top of HK, killing blow, damage charts.

First off, North, I have yet to see any evidence of a moral compass in your possession so stop making excuses.

Secondly, I used to do clicking. It was more comfortable for me to time my own shots and not get the "That spell is not ready yet" audio constantly. It does gimp your damage a bit but there is a positive to it. Clicking lets you mix in your specials at a timing you decide. If you get overly enamored of macros and are in a 'specials' situation, you can actually kill yourself and your party by using the macro. So you need to realize when it's time to just blaze away and when it isn't.

I think it's LESS important to use the macro in PvP since hunters tend to spend less time planted and more time evading and getting into firing position. THEN you use the macro and spam it for all you have time for. Then pick up stakes and move to the next position. During the time you are moving, you only have a few shots available to you and none are particularly impressive in dps. This is the main complaint why "Hunters suck in Arena", we can't do our major dps on the run like many casters can. So you still use the macro but it's less important than not because steadyshot is probably not your primary backup shot in PvP. You'll get more dps out of Multi-shot and arcane because you can stop a heartbeat and fire those off and keep running. You control the timing, not the macro build.

The macros really improved my Raid damage and helped my PvP damage when I get the chance to stop and blaze away. So I agree with the sentiment: "Use the Macro" but it doesn't mean you are a noob if you prefer manual timing. Just a lot of extra work that will generally result in a bit less damage. Doesn't make sense to throw away a tool everyone else uses.

Let's break it down a bit:

Keyboard turning = bad, mkay?

Mouse turning allows you to move your character more precisely and faster than keyboard turning. This is a boon in everything from PvP to solo/group/raid PvE. Get used to it.

Clicking = bad, mkay?

Clicking instead of having a good cluster of modifier dependant macros around your movement keys is slower and far less efficient. It takes time and dedication to get a proper setup going with modifier macros and so on, but it is well worth the time. Your reaction times will be reduced severely, both in PvP and PvE. This is very good for alot of situations.

Not using macros = bad, mkay?

Not using macros will sooner or later be a huge detriment to your dps. Why? Because your reaction time will not be enough to properly weave a shot rotation. You won't have to add specials like Trinkets or Rapid Fire/TBW to the shot rotation macros, but a shot macro is still mandatory for proper dps output.

Of course, you can play a Hunter in raids/pvp without following the above commandments, but you will be worse off for it. A skilled player doing the above > a skilled player that doesn't do the above.

So basically I'll be doing more damage than I'm already doing?

More damage, less deaths, more control, less inexplicable defeats in PvP...

It's his true self showing.
He's actually a really good guy, a doctor even. :)

That and he got banned from the IRC for bashing keyboardturners.
(something with brainspasms and inability to function as a human if i recall correctly)

He was being an *** and abusing people so I kicked him and banned him from the channel. End of story.

Awww, wittle Wordy got angwy when I told him his setup was for the mentally challenged or physically deformed. Only I actually said it the nice way: "Unless of course you are incapable of using said setup, which either requires a physical deformity/illness or you are simply uninterested in being better...".

I guess I can't tell the difference between nice and abusive anymore. Who want some nice lemonade and a lovely rape?

Nah, take a lot more than that to get me angry, I'm just not going to have users in the Alla IRC abused and that's how they felt. And, as I recall, I also said that you were welcome to come back if you were willing to be civil, which was declined.

So how 'bout we move back to the topic at hand now. If you really want to discuss this further, feel free to PM me.

Kinda saw that coming to be honest. I like a few spankings from time to time. Makes me feel so alive...
It would be better if Dq did it though...

Point of thread: Don't bash keyboard turners, no matter how horrible they are. They can ban you.

He's lovely. We have a love-hate relationship in which he is entirely indifferent to me and I am entirely indifferent to him. It's complicated but in the end it works... Largely because he appeals to my masochistic side.

Edit: Right... 5k dingthread next... crap I have no idea what to write.
