Sunwell weaponry - CATCHING UP - which combo?Follow

Hello.

I have been on holiday for a little while and, though I did managed to get Exalted, I need to catch up on the knowledge.

(1)

Has it been decided that "the" Sunwell Crossbow is a decent weapon and worth going for?

I should state that I am a Dwarven BM hunter, obviously with the gun bonus, currently using the Veteran's Musket.

If you had just the 150 badges, as I have just scraped past 100 and that will be my next target, would you take the Crossbow of Relentless Strikes or go for the stat boosts from melee weaponry?

That then raises another issue...

(2)

At the moment, I am using a Gladiator's Decapitator.

It looks as though it could be better to take two single-handed weapons, rather than the one double-handed (as I have been and as many do).

Is it?

Either way, which weapon(s) would best suit?

Ranged and Melee weapons or one or the other?

I suppose that what I am wondering is if my weaponry can be upgraded with the sunwell stuff or not and, if it - as I strongly suspect - can, with which?

My inclination is to go for the Crossbow first.

Thanks.

EDIT:

I should add that I am currently un-guilded, so have that limitation to my badge gathering, though heroic PUGs seem to have been going well.

My server has PuGs that farm SWP trash for sunmotes, so you could try doing one of those for the Felspine. It is the best hunter weapon in game (better than 2x shivs, unless the haste will mess up your rotation).

How is it the best?

I am not sure what it would do, as I haven't really figured out rotations.

My armory page: HERE

My current macro:

#showtooltip Steady Shot
/cast !Auto Shot
/cast Steady Shot
/use Bloodlust Brooch
/cast Rapid Fire
/cast [target=pettarget, exists] Kill Command
/cast [target=pettarget, exists] Bite

It seems to do really well, but I have heard a lot about new rotations. I am not sure if that weapon would be worth going after.

At the moment, I am still thinking of Sunwell stuff - unless a numbers person can tell me that the Shivering Felspine is that much better.

Well, first of all, you didn't bother searching for the felspine to compare with your items, so why should I? Your op didn't specify your spec, your level of raiding (though you are guildless and doing heroics, so pre-kara). With that being "given", you didn't look at the pre-raid sticky. Why, in the world, did you not look at the sticky? There are many weapons available at that gear level, not just the SHATTERED SUN (not sunwell, that refers to SWP, the raid instance) rep rewards and badge gear. 2 1 hands vs 1 2h? Did you not read the other sticky either? Whatever weapon has the best stats, you get. So if 2 1 hands have better combined stats than 1 2h, YOU CHOOSE THEM.

Thanks for listing links to all of these rep weapons, I have no idea which ones, but I'll just assume you mean Bombardier's Blade and Truestrike Crossbow.

The rep xbow has less stats and worse dps and a worse attack speed than the weapon you already have.

Felspine
52 ag
gem slot
120 ap
53 haste

Rep x2
28 ag
24 stam
52 ap
22 hit

Felspine is better.

Simply put, the badge crossbow is going to be your single best upgrade right now, even considering your racial.

For your melee weapon, there are tons of upgrades available. The S3 hunter axe is really really good. Legacy from kara, rep weapon from honor hold (Blackened Spear for hordies, whatever the equivalent is for you allies). Weapon from Mag'har rep isnt too shabby either (or whatever the ally equivalent is).

The felspine is an awesome weapon to have, and is the best option for many, but dont get carried away by calling it the best. You will want to dual wield whenever possible so you can double up on oils and stones. That being said, getting both the new badge fist weapons is a viable option.

While your waiting to grind badges you might want to keep an eye out for Don Santos Famous Hunting rifle on the ah or trade chat. I've had it drop for me twice since the sunwell patch, you'll probably see it at somepoint out there.

I believe you're thinking of the Hellforged Halberd available at revered with Honor Hold. It gets a meh IMO. While it just barely beats the Sonic Spear for pure attack power and agility, the extra stamina from the spear is nothing to sneeze at. Get the halberd if you're 'safe' in your raids and have an excellent tank. If find the spear is the better bet. I used Terokk's Quill before I got my spear.

I don't understand why people still use those weapons when the S3 axe is so easy to get.

Me neither... the S3 Axe HURTS when it hits and if I crit with it... ouch. I've killed players using it, including a fierce warrior! (Of course I pincushioned him before he got to me but he did get to me and then died from a Raptor Strike crit.)

There might be upgrades to this and dual wields that might beat it with oils and such, but it's still way up there and with S4 around the corner, it might get a little cheaper. Arena for 3 weeks and get the darned thing.

@ uzemaki

"the badge crossbow is going to be your single best upgrade right now"

I thought it might be.

At 125, from PUGs, I don't have too long to go.

"rep weapon from honor hold"

I had that, and yes (@ ItsaGaAs (thanks for the link)) it is the Hellforged Halberd, but did not see as much effectiveness from it as my current weapon (as above, original post).

@ Sir Xsarus

"I don't understand why people still use those weapons when the S3 axe is so easy to get."

You would rate it higher than the Shivering Felspine or are you saying that, for the ease / stats, it is the best?

@ anyone

So it seems that the best spend would be the 150 on the Crossbow of Relentless Strikes and make the effort to get the S3 weapon:
Vengeful Gladiator's Decapitator

I do like my battleground PvP, but have never done arenas.

Having read that one could form a team, lose a certain number of games a week and soon achieve the required points for the weapon, I am wondering if that is still possible.

I need to practice, as I have no arena experience, but will that be the simplest method (short of a lucky winning streak)?

win or lose, you get points, 3 weeks and you have the axe. I thought the better S3 was Vengeful Gladiators Waraxe because it was much faster at only a .2 dps white damage loss. I could be wrong. It's the one I got.

Waraxe is the one you want, not the decapitator, though they are pretty similar iirc. The felspine is the best hunter weapon in the game, and I posted its stats, and if you compare them, it is far, far better than the S3 axe. I think that Aethian should add it to the pre-raid sticky, and though it is in a raid instance, there is no real strategy, and you can easily farm for it with 10 people.

No no, the S3 Axe isn't as good as the Felspine. It's also not as good as the badge axe. However it's really really easy to get, and allows you to spend your time on other gear that doesn't have an easy replacement.

It's a pretty low droprate off trash, feel free to farm for it if you wish, but I'd say your time is best spent elsewhere.

Alright.

It seems as though there is a consensus on the melee weapon:

Ideal: Shivering Felspine
Bargain: Season 3 Weapon

Ranged weapon:

As I near 150 badges... would it then be better to spend them on upgrading my Veteran's Musket, to the Crossbow of Relentless Strikes, or has anyone found particular pieces of armor to provide a great improvement (if you want to compare to what I have, feel free to check my armory page: HERE)?

If you don't want to spend the time going for the S3 weapon, and want a quick alternative, get either the HH spear of Sonic Spear from Murmur.

Fuckin' Murmur and his fuckin' spear... I am going to get it no matter what weapon I already have. For no other reason than that Murmur hasn't yielded it once since I first saw him.

That's a cooler weapon ^^

Cool? Who the hell cares about cool? Dead Parrot Xbow is proof that as Hunters we are retarded when it comes to fashion. I just want that damn spear because Murmur won't let me have it. I'm fairly certain I'm exalted twice now, yet that damned Spear refuses to drop.

As proved by this screenshot, i do :P

Cost me a couple hours to get.
(though i also got the brazier)

The fact that i've seen SL more often than i care about also helps me want to ignore that place though.
I just decided that if that spear doesnt want to drop i wont come to pick it up either.
Stupid thing.

Of course I was kidding. Even if it had a 99% drop rate, it would only drop after 30 runs.

After getting the X-Bow, get another 100 badges and upgrade your LW chest to the 100 badge chest.

I got my Sonic Spear on my first SL run. And I've seen it drop several times since.

But, before anyone thinks I'm rubbing anything in...

I have never, ever seen either the WSR or the Sunfury drop. I didn't just lose rolls out of poor luck, I never saw either of them drop at all. Ever. And I'm probably thrice exalted, and still clear Kara weekly for BoJ with my Guild.

Yeah, I have the parrot now, but before SSO content was released I thought my next ranged upgrade was going to be a prayer for the Serpent Spine...
