HI! forgive me if this has been discussed before, but im a noob mage. i was looking at the talent calculator on the WoW website and i tryed this build:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html?tal=2500050300230100000000050023201230303105311500000000000000000000000

Im not sure, but i would probably mix up arcane blasts with fireballs and use presence of minnd with pyroblast. tell me what you think. thanks.

EDIT: stupid typos

It will work, but there are better specs for PVE and PVP. I am guessing you are going PVP cause you are going for the quick damage of fire + arcane.

Check the sticky for more traditional builds.

IF YOU ARE GOING PVE here are my questions:
With respect to your build, I would ask why you do not have ignite. It can increase your damage by 40% of your original spell's damage. That is great.

You have taken 2/2 in incinerate - A boost to crit damage on spells that are NOT your primary damage in PVE. If you did this for the PVP benifits - ok.

Molton Fury? It's ok, but if you are raiding, there are better specs. (My thoughts being that you really only get to take advantage of this talent against bosses with lots of HP - unless you are raiding - you won't face that much.) If you are PVE regular mobs, you should 1 shot most things with <20%. If you are PVP, I don't know... I never was a huge fan of MF.

Finally - it seems like you are going you are going for the wow of burst damage from the Arcane tree, but picking up the high nuke value of the fire tree. If you want nuking - go deep fire/raid spec. If you want burst damage - I'd expect less fire and more Arcane to get AP.

It is a viable build, but not fantastic. (That said - I'm 0/0/61 for frost single mob crits, plus frost AOE farming mage. So my spec is about as stupid as it comes...)

Assuming you are going for pvp this will work better.

If you are going for pve i really don't recommend that spec at all.

And if you are going for a mix, than yours is probably better.

those ideas look good on paper, and thats where it ends.

problem is that you did not really factor in scaling, empowered XXX talents pushed specialization to the top. After removing the coefficient nerf from improved XXX talents, mages with the scaling talents do much much better than a mage whose spells did not scale as well with talents. IF you want a PoM pyro build, it would be a arcane heavy build that uses fire spells as the main damage source. Its also mainly used as a buffer build while gearing up in end-game. The scaling power of that build will cease once deep fire takes over. The current trend with mages is that at a certain gear level, some would switch to the 2/48/11 build which favours dps over longevity. Gear then dicates that arcane would take over till one gets 4/5 T6.
