How bad are boars after the *fix*Follow

I'm just curious how bad boars are since the nerf, er *bug fix*. I've had Baconator since I was level 14, but I picked up a cat in preparation for running instances in the Outlands. Now that I'm level 64 and Baconator's stuck at level 52, I'm wondering if it's even worth leveling him. Does anyone have any experience with boars since the nerf? I'd hate to level him once I get to 70 only to find out that he's no better than my cat at holding aggro and I should have dropped him ages ago.

Thanks in advance,
Camel

I still like my boar for soloing. His threat spike after charge isn't as high as it once was. I need to wait an additional second to start the pew pewing or I'll pull the mob to me a bit sooner than previously. I want him to run to me just before he dies. If I time it right, I can give him the coup d'etat with my polearm and reach down to loot the corpse without needing to walk over to where my pet was standing first.

They lost their massive chargegrowl threatspike.
Wich means they are now good soloing pets instead of insane soloing pets.

Carrion Birds are now probably better for soloing, as screech has some decent threat.
(1 screech is i believe 1 6th of an unbuffed growl at lvl 70, and i think my growls with ~2.2k ap are about twice as high as an unbuffed one..... though I'm not sure.)

Thanks for the replies guys. I really do miss my boar. I remember the days when, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't pull off of him after his initial charge. It may have been a little overpowered, but it sure was fun.

Aethien, I may give a Carrion Bird a shot as a soloing pet, but I'm curious how well these compare to an Owl. Is the +5% armor better than the +7% damage? Which active skills would you recommend besides growl and screech? I'm thinking claw and probably dive over bite, but I might be missing something.

Thanks,
Camel

Carrion birds are great. If it wasn't for those flapping wings in my face, I'd use mine more often.

Isn't screech AOE? That could be BAD in some solo moments... LOL!

The AoE from screech will only grab aggro on mobs that should have already been aggro'd.

AoE with the range of a bug fart... Your aggro range is scarier...
Besides, Screech allows you to use Mend Pet and possibly even a single multishot in soloing without having to spend time directing your pet to different mobs first.

You could always respec to Beast Mastery and not worry at all.

My Hunter sips piña coladas while Bubbles the Ravager goes to town on those pesky Blood Elves.

Unless you have good gear.
If I'm specced BM my pet still doesnt stand a single chance of holding aggro, even when i give it a headstart and use a standard 1:1 rotation.

Gogo crit! (think i'm at ~27% as BM)

using Omen or any Treathmeeter will give u the advantage to control your aggro (you might use it allready).

then you got feign Death and intimidation

Just Ctrl-1 + Autoshoot. That's my soloing recipy, and I mostly just keep half an eye on WoW while I do other things. And that's just in case I get two or more adds/Horde comes runnin'... Humar is the single best pet, or I am just the single best Hunter out there.

I dont think I would have gotten into T6 content without Omen ;)
And FD s to much trouble, most mobs are dead before they reach me anyway :)

I haven't used a boar since around 50 or 55 I don't think. I've used cats most of my hunter's "life" although I've tried most of the other ones and eventually a boar. Didn't really care for it, he didn't hold aggro that well and it seemed his dps wasn't as good as a cat pet, especially with the BM raid spec. Even the cat isn't the best at it but from what I've seen on my playstyle, he's far better than any of the others were, especially the boar.

I'm in mostly beginner epic gear, am beastmastery, use aspect of the viper while soling and my boar still doesn't hold aggro well. All it takes is one crit or anything more than autoshot and I've either pulled aggro or will soon if I don't press the kill command. Once the mob's health is below 50% I can add a steady or two, pull aggro and have him dying at my feet.

I still love the boars for the levelling and that rush they have before any other pet gets the dash , quicker to get to target has to be a big bonus on lower levels of play.

But at lower levels with any pet i am now finding it far harder to get mobs attacking me , Has anyone else noticed a difference ? at level 70 i still find i can easily get any mob to attack me and ignore my pet though ?

There sure is some weird stuff going on in pet mechanics recently and from what i read will get even weirder with the next patch.

With my 70 and a boar i found just using steady shot i almost always get more threat than my boar but it has always been like it for me, However using the standard macro that most high level hunters seem to use or a steady/auto/kill command i can usually just get the mob dead just before it gets to me.
