ok to start off, I have leveled my hunter to 70 and find I am having some issues with certain things. My guild is attempting to put a second kara group together and I would like to start kara, and some of the numbers make no sense to me. So I am looking for help.

My armory link

would someone please take a look and help me figure out where I need to improve, gear wise.

Also any advice for pre-kara would be good too. I am new to raiding in WoW but definately want to get my feet wet.

Should i be gemming more for stats and ignore socket bonuses or are the bonuses more important?

Pets, I have my raptor who I love and kept stabled because I tamed a 70 cat, I would rather use my raptor but have been told he is a bit big and not as effective as a higher level pet (tamed him at 39 and he's been with me the whole way). Is there a really a difference at 70 or will they function the same with the same pet build?

thanks ahead of time for the help.

EDIT: before anyone else links the sticky, which i have been reading (why anyone would think otherwise is beyond me), these are a few things that i didnt quite get, and thats why i asked. I do appreciate the responses though.

Aethien's gear list, one of the stickies at the top of the forum list, shows gear, gems, enchantments, shot rotations and most anything else you need to get ready for Karazhan and other advanced instances. Use Cheeky's spreadsheet to determine whether socket bonuses are 'worth it'.

Your +hit is too high. You only need +142 to never miss on level 73 bosses. Since most are 72, I suggest reducing your bonus hit to +92 and regem for +agility or +attack power. Then go do the cook dailies until you get Spicy Hot Talbuk recipe That'll make up much of the difference for when you fight level 73 bosses.

First and foremost, did you read both stickys? If not, please do so. If you have read them, then do so again. Overall you are gearing your self "ok". You are above the hit cap which is nice to see. How is your rep with the Shattered Sun? You need to be there working on that Now!

Major things I have noticed:
*your gun is way to fast, this will gimp your rotation and overall will hurt your DPS.

*Little bit BassAckwards spec, http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=mtbM0gxRwuVoVxbRV try this one.

*Look at the pre-raid checklist http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/class.html?wclass=5;mid=118203468330282849;num=195;page=1 It is one of the stickys. A Lot of work and time was put into this, It has where you can get every piece of gear that will help you start raiding.

*Gems...... Gemming for set bonuses will be ok if that bonus will give you more then the gems normally would. Example, http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=34616;source=live I use these gemmed with http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=24061;source=live because I need the hit rating and that socket bonus, at this time, is worth it to me. However once I upgrade and no longer need 8 hit rating I am putting a 20 AP gem in each of them.

If I where in your shoes I would not worry about re gemming, I would re gear. Check out the pre=raid list, everythign i could tell you about gearing is already there.

*In closeing, your Attack Power is VERY low. Your First Trinket is terrible, get a new ranged weapon, Read stickys and implement what you learn there.

I agree 100% with this statement. For example, I dont know if the armory updated this wrong or something, but your shoulders have only +10 stamina, and it says +0 agility lol. I dont know much about gun speeds and all those calculations, but you definitely need a new gun/bow. Easy one to get is the cross bow for being exalted with Shattered Sun, although the one in HH/Thrallmore (exalted for both) are nice too.

My recommendation would be to just go for the 70 dungeon set (in both heroic and regular):
Helm drops from last boss in Mech
Chest drops from last boss in Bot
Both Shoulders and Legs drop from last boss in SV (although I think the drop rate on those are pretty dam low, as I have yet to get either after about 26 runs)
Hands come from last boss in SH

I have 2 of them, which gives me the bonus of 4 less seconds on my trap cooldowns, which is pretty nice for heroics.

You can definitely get rid of some hit%...I'm pretty sure you can get through all of kara with 5%-6% hit, or at least most of it. Change the hit with more AP, bc even with viper on your AP is very low. I would also go so far as to say forget the stamina gems, go for the +agi or +ap ones instead. Its nice to have more health, but to give up +8 agility for +9 stamina seems like a waste to me. Your rings look fine for now, but you really gotta get rid of that first trinket. Get one that gives you extra AP on equip, and more AP for 20 secs or so when you use it.

As far as pets go, I have had my cat since lvl 10, and bring it EVERYWHERE with me, so I'm kinda biased. But I love it. It puts out good dps even though I'm surv specced. I tamed a raptor once, although they look really cool I didnt like it that much. To each his/her own right?

Read the sticky. Please. EVERY SINGLE THING YOU NEED IS IN THE PRE-RAID ONE.

To you other guys: His hit isn't WAY too high, if he removes the gem it will be fine. You should never gem for stam in PvE, you're dead if a boss hits you anyways. Gem for AG>AP and Stam instead. +10 stam shoulder enchant? Get the aldor/scryer one right now. Respec to the cookie cutter build that is in the sticky. Go run some heroics to get Bloodlust Brooch. Get a helm with a meta slot for the +3% crit dam +12 ag gem.

Just so you know, all of that was in the sticky, and even more. The time that you spent waiting for people to spend their time to post was much greater than the time it would have taken to read over the sticky, and you would have gained more knowledge in the process.

Edit: Read the OTHER ******* STICKY TOO.

ALL PETS OF THE SAME FAMILY ARE EXACTLY THE SAME (except for casters but there are no caster raptors). NO MATTER WHAT.

If the socketbonus is not worth it, place either + AP or +Agi gems in the sockets.

See your chest? That +6 stamina that you gemmed for is useless (even moreso because you used a straight blue +stam gem in the process). The only reason you gem for anything other than ag/hit is to meet your meta reqs, and your helm doesn't have a meta slot.

Once your gear is on par with what's in the Pre-Raid gear list sticky, use Cheeky's spreadsheet, or if you're too lazy to put all your iformation in there... I know i was, you can simply look at the stats on the item and see if it's better for you.

What I mean is, by taking a look at the differences in stats between the two items (the one you're wearing and the one you're thinking of using to replace it with) just glance and see if the stats are better or if it's what you want. In my experience with getting my gear to the T4+ (some T4 gear but with equipment from TK and SSC that's not T5) level I found that as long as you know what kind of gear NOT to get there really is no wrong choice. The new gear may not increase your performance but it won't take it down either, meaning taking your Agility down by 7 but increasing your AP by 14, or increasing your +hit by 10 or giving you increased crit%... the difference in your performance will be negligible, you'll just do the same damage in a different way.

I hope that makes sense. I guess what I'm trying to say is... make sure you have a complete or near complete grasp of how each stat effects your performance for your build/ playing style before you start asking which pieces are better as each person is going to have different opinions reall. As long as you do your job of doing damage and doing it well(keeping up and holding your own against other DPS) no one is going to look at your gear anyway.

Some T4 or pre-raid gear is better than T5, and likewise T5-T6. Most of the time it is not, but more than a few times it is.

Tit for tat, +agi is better than +AP. If/when you find yourself regemming those Breeching Comets, stick a 10 Agi gem inside instead of 20 AP.
