"The Lonely Priest": grouping (or not) in the old worldFollow

Hello,

I've started playing WoW again after a few years' hiatus. I had a 60 Prot Warrior pre-TBC in an end-game (for the time) guild, and at that point it seemed like there was nowhere I could go and NOT have a group clamoring for more members to do any given instance. Now that I've come back to the game, I'm finding that it's much harder to get groups! I've rolled two characters to 30ish (a Warlock and a Rogue), both times without doing any instances -- not because I didn't want to, but because finding a group was like pulling teeth.

So I decided to start a Priest, because I got the greatest kick out of helping people as my Warrior, and it's hard to give a hand when you're soloing all the time. I figured I might as well up the ante and go full-out as a Priest, figuring I'd have no problems getting groups -- people always need healers, right? So far, that hasn't been the case. Now I'm still low-level, so maybe I'm jumping to conclusions, but I was just wondering if any of you guys could advise me on what my future is going to look like in old Azeroth. Has everyone really fled to the Outlands? It seems like if it's not SM, no one wants to run it in the old world. Am I going to be stuck healing SM for twenty levels (although even that is looking good versus soloing those levels)?

I rolled a Priest because I wanted to group and be as helpful as possible in instances -- do I have to wait until 58+ to be able to do that?

I play on Dalaran if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance for your responses!

It must depend on the server. My server is medium pop overall but the Horde is way in the minority and my undead priest (level 57, so still in Azeroth) has always gotten a TON of whispers asking to come heal something.

But TBH, I almost never bother. I find it's much faster to level solo, and I don't care much about getting blue eq since it gets outdated so fast. Maybe a lot of people on your server are thinking like me.

Grouping with friends for fun, on the other hand, is another story. You don't mention your guild situation, but finding a leveling guild that likes to run instances is a good option.

Generally speaking (may vary by servers) old world is basically a land of up and coming twinks, and alts. Everyone really is in outlands sadly. Your best bet instance wise is:

Wailing Caverns/Deadmines
Shadowfang Keep (horde side mainly)
Scarlet Monastery
Zul Farrak - "the last stop" it's basically the last instance you need for gear before you hit the outland grind.

Unfortunately there's not alot of demand for instance past ZF since you'll be close to outland and you can quest there faster than instance.

So unless your server is unusually active at the mid levels, like everyone else, you'll probably be stuck till outland :(
