Greetings all. First of all I hit 70 on my hunter this weekend:) /bow

Now its time for the fun times of gearing up and I and planning on actually getting into Kara for my first time ever. Though, I'm a long ways away from being Kara ready so my question to the brain trust here. When did you start to get your +hit gems? I am planning on doing a bunch of BG's first to get a couple S2 pieces (namely the head and chest) so I was thinking of just throwing in some stamina and/or agility until I am ready to run Kara then switching over to the hit gems....possibly a little sooner when I hit the regular level 70 5-mans.

Is this approach laughable? I haven't run many regular instances at all yet so when I'm running BF, UB and the other lower level instances the +hit won't really help me much since I'm several levels higher than the bosses. I want to run those easier ones first to really get good at chain trapping and aggro management and working my way up the chain in case you were wondering why a 70 is talking Blood Furnace.

I'm a miner/skinner so cash isn't an issue for the regemming.

If you do PvP, try to get around 5% hit, when you start doing lvl 70ish instances, slowly work towards 142 :)

ahhh so hit does apply to PvP. Makes perfect sense, I just didn't think it through. Forgot about the %5 chance to miss on same level targets....nothing ticks me off more when an aimed shot misses, what the hell was he aiming at with that aimed shot.

Thanks Aethien, you're swell

I always found I could get enough hit from gear that I never needed to socket it. That being said, if you're not raiding don't gem higher then 5%. If you are raiding it's worthwhile to put hit gems in your gear to get 9%. They are the highest damage increase, but be warned, you'll get hit from gear, and then have to resocket.

As to pvp, I've never been entirely clear on exactly what role hit plays in pvp. Off hand it seems like it should work normally, but who knows.

I've read that hit affects PvP though I've not done much of that. Given that all targets are no more tha level 70 in PvP one would only need 5% or +79 to never miss.

Would you not want to be hit capped in the regular 5 man level 70 instances, such as Shadow Lab(and others) since the bosses there are level 72.

I think I got my answer on what to do in the near term, though I'm also open for more info. I think I am going to throw in 2 +8 hit gems into my Belt of the Black Eagle once I track down someone who can make it.

Also if you are SV specced the Surefooted talent can take away some of the +hit rating you would need. There is also the Surefooted enchant, but thats expensive.

I think the new badge belt is better than the black eagle. http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=34929 is especially nice if you are hurting for hit.

oh ya, much much better, but me and badges aren't on speaking terms yet. I'm a long ways away from getting badges still and money isn't an issue, mining/skinning FTW!! I'm gonna grab me a couple nice pieces of gear to get ready for heroics and then kara, but I'll be lucky to see Kara by the end of the summer (casual player here)
