Pet Question: VipersFollow

After hitting 19 and quite a while of corpse runs, I finally managed to solo enough of WC to get ahold of a Serpent pet, and now after looking at his poison spit only doing 25-30 dam, and only 3 ranks of it, I'm sadly thinking it might not have been worth it. I was toying with the idea of a Bat or Wind Serpent before picking this guy up, and I'm hoping someone might be able to give me a rough bit of a comparison, as to wether Serpents are something worth raising to 70. (And I know personal preference comes into play, but I've already got a red back spider that I'll be keeping, and I don't really want to get to 70 and have a box full of cool but 'eh' pets.)

For end game raiding you'll want a cat or a ravager (and far end game with lots and lots of crit a wind serpent is also very good). However there are plenty of those at high levels, so for now I suggest you use whatever you like using.

Petopia would have told you the amount of dmg the ability does beforehand :)

Serpents are still damn cool pets though ^^

I really love windserpents as grinding/leveling pets. Even though they do less DPS than a ravager or cat, they are still considered high DPS pets. Plus, their diets are really easy. They eat bread, cheese and fish. Bread and cheese are fairly uncommon drops off of humanoid mobs- but they drop. Fish come in stacks if you have a fishing pole.

And anytime you run an Instance with Mage you've got another stack of free Pet food. :)

Are you sure? I didn't think you could feed pets conjured foods.

Mage Food=Bread, therefore any pet that can eat bread can eat mage food.

Nothing wrong with your pet with Bite and Poison Spit and the usual growl they are the equal of many pets and better than some out there..

Many pets only get Bite to do damage so you already are on a winner..

As others have said at end game at the Moment there is only two pets that are better , but who knows what changes will come in the Pet Classes .

It is quite possible for normal play to have any pet even a castor at level 70 and still quest in a viable way , I know as i have at level 70 been trying all classes of pet as i am not interested in doing instances or Raiding just in learning all the outland quests and areas.

Take up Fishing and with the right choice of fishing places you can get plenty of Gold and food for your pet , one example at low level is the Deviate Fish in the Barrens on my servers up to 1g each , at end game in outland prices with fish are even better.

**caster. True, you an use caster pets as well, just you know they do have lower stats than their counterparts. See at Petopia.

Also, Serpents (poison spit) and Windsepents (lightning breath) are considered nature attacks, so if mobs are resistant or even immune to that you'll have to use bite or something. Mara comes to mind. And Dragonhawks (fire breath) same thing.
