Warlock questions (was forum=82)Follow

HIHI :D

Ok, big question...I have a 70 Warlock that is my "I need this" farmer. I'd like some suggestions on spec's for her. She's not awesomely dressed and is not a tailor (hence not getting the Shadowcloth set). I don't want to spend the time/gold to obtain "purples" just for a farmer (unless they are from quest rewards).

If anyone can suggest a really good spec and explain why it's a good spec for a farmer, I'd sure appreciate it.

Oh, and I'm old irl so not as agile with my button pushing any more :D

Thanks mucho :D

You're probably going to get a better response in the Warlock forums: http://wow.allakhazam.com/forum.html?wclass=9

If you are only going to be farming and questing (only 5-mans, no raids), you should go to either an Affliction or Demonology spec. A lot depends on your play style and what you will be comfortable with.

I'm Affliction (43/0/18), and in much of the same situation you're in. My schedule doesn't allow me to raid, and I abhor PvP. My spec works great for me, but like I said, you actually might be better off with a Felguard build or even a different Afflic build than mine (Afflic+Demo instead of Afflic+Destro). As far as I can tell there is no "perfect build" for farming and questing.

The two best ways to farm on a lock are the deep affliction or felguard build. You can farm with destruction but it's not as efficient, especially with lower gear.

Affliction: keep imp out on passive and just use him for dark pact when you need mana. Run around and dot up 3-7 mobs(depending on difficutly/gear lvl), when they all catch up to you pop Instant howl of terror, drain life and dark pact back to full health/mana and loot/repeat. You will take hits with this build, I would usually wait until I was half health until I feared. The only down time is running around picking up your loot.

Demonology: Send felguard in, dot up mob, send felguard to next mob, repeat. You don't need to wait until the mob is dead before you send your felguard after the next person, maybe around 60% of the mobs life. At some point the mobs will agro you but if done right they will die at your feet due to the dots. You won't be getting hit much but your felguard will take a beating so the only down time is when your healing you pet.

Destruction: Stand at max range and nuke. The mob should be dead by the time they reach you. As I said this is more gear oriented as higher gear will ensure the mob dies before it hits you compared to lower gear where you may take a beating. If you go the raid spec 21/40 I would also sac your felhound as you will never have to worry about mana. Shadowbolts and an occasional bandage will be all you use for basic mobs.

If *all* you're interested in is farming then I'd have to agree with ccbutch.

For you, it sounds like Felguard build is the way to go. If you get distracted, or are multitasking, this build keeps the chains down to 1 or 2 monsters at a time under controlled circumstances. The killrate with Affliction will be a bit higher but it is one of the most intense Warlocking experiences and requires quick eyes and quick fingers and leaves little time for anything else, save listening to music.

Just a few other options to throw out, especially if you're interested in any other aspects with your lock.

Using a Demonology hybrid that reaches into Demonic Sacrafice will give you the option of Sacraficing a Voidwalker for 2% hp or Felhound for 3% mp per 4 seconds. This is a ridiculously huge amount when used in steady grind. Pairing 2% hp with a Destruction build allows Lifetaps on the move, and passive life regen while in battle. Pairing 3% mana with an Affliction build is a decent substitute for a Mana Battery (although much less 'on demand' mana.) This then translates extremely well into deeper talent setups: SL/SL can then Sac Felpup for Mana (unless life is 50% higher than mana), SuccySac Destro can forgo the damage increase and still lay out a pounding while getting mana or life back. Since Mana = Life = Damage, no matter what you choose, it will help you stay steady on the grind.

I never take hits, and I'm deep affliction. I drain hunt instead of drain tank (which is what you were describing). I send in my VW, dot up the Mobs, Life Tap, and drain - then rinse and repeat on the next mob. My VW can handle 3-4 same level mobs with no problems. The main thing with drain hunting is the need to maintain aggro control, rather than grabbing threat from your minion. It's a little slower, but there are virtually no repair bills. The only down time is that every 4 mobs or so, your VW will be needing to Consume Shadows.
