I found the solution!Follow

#1 Jun 13 2008 at 3:49 AM Rating: Sub-Default
Since like ~80% of the threads on this forum are questions and the replies are usually something like "ZOMG read the sticky!!" I think I've come up with a solution. Allakhazam should just delete every post in this forum, lock the forum from getting any new posts, and just leave the stickies. Would that make everyone happy?

You know, I've always attributed Allakhazam to having a more mature playerbase than the official forums, but the hunter forum is just full of hardasses...

Ahh, well I have a question then :P

I just got immo trap on my hunter and I'm wondering..what is this thing good for? The sticky says it's "The normal damage trap for solo" but I just don't see how you could effectively implement it in a solo situation that would be beneficial. I mean you've got to maneuver the mob on top of it and if it's just a normal soloable mob why even go through the trouble? The easiest way I can think of to use this trap would be to send in your pet, run up about halfway and drop the trap, then have your pet run back towards you until the mob passes over the trap, but I don't see how that would speed up a kill as it seems like a pain and you probably lose killing time since your pet isn't doing damage while it's running back towards you (especially if you're BM).

I can't see where else you'd use this trap. In PvP frost and snake traps seem to take dominance, and in groups you usually just stick to freeze trap for CC. I'm already hurting for bar space and if I can't figure a useful...use for this trap I may just take it completely off my action bar.

I was doubtful of explosive trap too but after re-reading the trap section in the sticky I can see it being useful for situations like the AoE pulls in Moroes' room.

So they should just restrict editing to a few key topics? perhaps sorted into categories? maybe even linking to each other?

like a wiki? Smiley: tongue

You use it whenever you are stuck in a melee situation you cant get out of and you still need to deal damage.

Not that it's used often, but that is where useful addons like Zhuntermod come into play.

I can honestly count on one hand the number of times I've used it. It would be more useful to put a freezing trap down and get to range honestly. The Aoe explosion trap I've used a fair bit though. I think the real issue is that hunter pve is so easy that there is no need to use traps to get an edge. I do remember using it when fighting king bangalash (pre nerf, and under leveled) just to get that little bit more damage, but it's tricky and normally not needed.

Now see your question was excellent. Good job.

I want to make the guide into a wiki, but I don't want to steal Mulgrin's thunder, and can't win anything anyway, being not in the USA. I'll do it eventually. I wonder if the thread can actually be a hard link to the wiki. That'd be fantastic.

Immolation trap is had MUCH earlier than snake (lvl 66 I believe). Snake is something of an end-game trap.

Immolation works against almost every target in the game, only a handful of mobs and bosses are immune to it.

Immolation is both a planned and opportunity trap. Some traps are CC and safety, end-game wise, immolation is just a free damage add when other traps are pretty much useless.

Proper trapping in a group is not really done the way you describe. Planned trapping is usually done during the pull phase. If CC is not an issue and you want some additional damage, you can drop an immolation trap down, HOWEVER, many groups will not allow this as it generates aggro on you and not the tank, I heard a rumor that you can misdirect trap damage onto the tank but there are far better shots to use to do that with. So essentially it's counter productive most times in a group. In combat, it's an opportunity trap you dump on a target to help burn them down. Useful in a pinch if they can't be CC'd.

Solo use of this trap is easily done. You can do it how you describe which is basically a pet pull. I still use that pull in end-game when I'm solo. You can also set up an immolation trap for a patrol you know their route on. It's a 'trap pull' (to give it a name) and it's really only useful if you want to pull a pat from between two mobs that aren't close enough to aggro on you but you want that pat to run for you when they hit 'spot X'. This is normally done with a well timed shot but if you don't want any mistakes and know the pat route, you can use a trap pull. It was fun to do. You can't use snake as they can go for the mobs, aggroing them, so immolation works well.

I still use explosive trap from time to time. Great for AoE.

BTW, the stickies are awesome to learn the basics and some more advanced tips and tricks. People on this forum are generally very helpful and will even answer questions that are in the stickies. Sometimes, folks can be in a bad mood and give a sharp answer. It's not good, but it is life. It's hard enough being a hunter, we are surrounded by many players that actively try to make us look like idiots. When you find someone like that posting, it takes serious control not to lash back out at them. I'm just one of those that was a total idiot and now can probably claim minor stupidity from time to time. I guess that makes me an evolved idiot. I'm only less of an idiot because of the very people on this forum that may seem like hardasses but in truth, they do always help.

Imo it's pointless to make the uide into a wiki.
It's in the right place here, why put it up twice?

edit: I used count word for fun on my pre-raid sticky.
I could get well over 50 entries from that alone :P

I don't really like red cheeks. Thanks though.
