Pets you just can't get rid ofFollow

#1 Jun 11 2008 at 8:07 AM Rating: Excellent
OK back when I made my tauren hunter, I hit level 10 and immediately ran all the way from Mulgore to Darkshore (many deaths were involved) and picked up a moonstalker runt as my very first pet. I leveled with that pet all the way to 60, where I changed pets, but I never got rid of him. Now with a 70 wind serpent and a 70 ravager my slots are full and I'd like to pick up another wind serpent that's unique looking, but I can't get rid of my cat because it was my first pet!

Has anyone else had a real problem getting rid of their pet because it was their first pet?

Not as such, no. My first pet was a spotted kitty from Teldrassil but I dropped him like my Prom Date once I spotted something better. Which was Humar, incidentally. Him I won't get rid of unless my account is deleted entirely.

One consideration for making a Tauren hunter for me was the Mulgore boar. The skin is only used in newbie areas, and only one of those is Horde. I can't muster the nerve to cut Rupert loose, even if he has been nerfed to hell and back.

I was not enamored of my first pet. I dropped him as soon as I found another with a skill I needed.

Unusual pets interest me however. Currently I want to get Arikara. However my stable slots are full. I'm not getting rid of my Ghost Saber nor Rotting Agam'ar. I've far too much effort into leveling those up to 70 to get rid of them now. I can't have a permanent third pet and still pick up the new pets in WotLK to learn their skills.

I still have my first ever tamed Kittie Kat from Azuremyst, and he's been my companion ever since. I've only ever tamed other pets to get skills to up his uberness... but there is one of those wicked spiders from Blade's Edge just kind of loitering in my stable. >.> I should really name him or cut him loose.

I've gone through a load of pets. It's very rare that one is allowed to get comfy in his/her stable slot.

The exception would be my ghost wolf. Given that he's now irreplacable and I spent a lot of time getting him to 70. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Blizz got rid of him for me eventually.

I've recently aquired the white lion Sian-Rotam and I don't think I will be able to ditch him either as he also took a silly amount of effort to get (there's a whole thread of story there!)

Which leaves Tesla. Who is A: a Wind Serpent and therefore my "ZOMGDMG" pet and B: the only pet I have held onto for any length of time. I can only see me replacing her with another Wind Serpent with a better looking skin (and naming it Tesla so it would in my head be the same pet)

So, when WoTLK comes out. I may be screwed.

Incidently if you asked me what my favourite pet family was, I'd reply "Owl" yet I don't have one.

Blast their heads with a bazooka, that'll get rid of the nasty pests.

I had Hayoc for a long time, but put it back in the stable when I got tired of hearing the incessant wing flapping. After I stabled him, I can't remember what I picked up, but I eventually ended up with a Polar Bear named Cola, and a Winterspring cat that I named Dinah.

Gave up Cola to tame my ravager, Molly.
Gave up Hayoc when I realized that I needed to train Molly :(

I still have my Cat, which I justify keeping because of PvP (Prowl + shadowmeld = win). She rarely sees the light of day.

But after playing around with an Owl a bit, and liking- but not loving- it, I went and tamed Arash-ethis, which I will never let go.

My three pet slots are Echeyakee[Yuki] (Which I have had since level 16.) Ghost Saber[Mononoke] (Which I am in the process of leveling for lulz.) and Takk the Leaper[Reptar]

I generally use my cat for instances where there is very little AoE damage. I have it spec'd with full damage bonuses and stamina, with no natural armor or resistances. Only avoidance and your normal claw/prowl/dash.

My raptor is about half and half with stamina/natural armor, and I use it for dailies and stuff where there's physical AoEs or mobs I can offtank.

I'll probably have these three pets the rest of my career. Ghost Saber is really neat, and Echeyakee is my oldest friend, so they're both staying even though they would probably fill the same role. Smiley: laugh

My white wolf Odyma wasn't my very first pet, but we leveled from mid-20's to 70 together, so he gets a permanent stable slot - even though wolves can't hold aggro for anything. I tamed Sian-Rotam back when he was a Horde-only quest spawn, but promtly stabled him when Blizz opened the quest to Alliance. Seems everyone has him now. I now run with a Winterspring owl. I know they're not tops at anything, but they've got decent dps, good aoe threat, and since no one else runs with birds, screech is moderately useful in groups.

On my second hunter (lvl 68 dwarf) I wanted a collection of rare pets. At 10, I ran to both Eversong and Mulgore to pick up the Springpaw Cub and the barking wolf. At 28 I tamed Arikara. So she has three difficult to obtain low-level red-skinned Horde pets. The cub is named Soleil and the wolf is Soliloquy. I haven't thought of a good name for the windserpent yet. I haven't been able to give any of them skills higher than 28, but I'm not that worried about it. If I absolutely have to for WotLK, I'll abandon the wolf, learn all the lvl 80 skills, and go re-tame and re-level him.

If I had the patience to level more hunters so I could tame more pets, I probably would :).

And as soon as Blizz gives sporebats *anything* worthwhile, I want one of them too.

I have a Serpent from Wailing Caverns that I spent hours trying to get (My 70 friend kept accidentally killing him)
and my leveling pet is Rotting Agam'ar (http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/mobs/mob_rottingagamar.php) I can't get rid of either of them!

Can't and wont ditch "chops" (Bellygrub).

BellyGrub (Chops) = Dailys
Ravager (Spyke) = Raids
Skettys Cat (Gatita) = Dungeons/Heroics

My first pet was one of the cats from the starting dwarf area. I knew he was disposable so I just used and abused him until my mid-teens. I then got a green/yellow crab from Westfall. He was my only pet until my mid-fifties when I picked up one of the (then-elite) wolves from Jintha-Alor in the Hinterlands. This exposure to dash made my crab pale a little bit in comparision. The crab is a great little tank...but waiting for his slow *** to get to a mob is a drag. I leveled them both to 70 and have maxed out their skills.

I love them both and will not get rid of them. But I am considering what to get for my third stable slot. Nothing really strikes my fancy yet.

But i found another one and i got it to the same lvl.But now there is a very special cat i found in the Outland, but i have no room!so instead of deleting my first, i almost deleted me second! Now i can't find that cat anymore because i waited too long.

I don't wanna' drop any of my three pets, but it looks like someone will have to go if I want upgraded skills. :^(

My current favorite is Orsthen my Princess.

I also have Timber but I've been having bad pathing and clipping problems with him, so he'll probably be the one I drop.

And, based on what I've read here, I picked up a Ravager as soon as I got my freeze trap (tamed on first try!). I think the Ravagers are as good as people say, but he lacks personality. He's still cool and there's the emotional investment that I put into him since I was looking forward to him for 20 levels...
Maybe if I got a brighter colored modeled ravager it'd be better.

I was quite happy with Sherman (my turtle tank with Shell Shield), Breeze (my Wind Serpent with lightning breath) and Wahya (Black Ravager Mastiff from Darkshire who has furious growl).

Anyway, this was until last Thursday when I watched Tarzan with my daughter. Immediately I took my hunter to STV, got him to level 41 and got tamed an Edler Mistvale Gorilla, (Clyde). I intend to keep him, although I might upgrade to Kurmokk. Why am I choosing to keep a Gorilla? Because they scratch their asses !

Ugh I didn't think about that until I read your post. -_-

I guess a cat and ravager will have to do, but Parappa the Rapta was suck a cool name/joke. DAMN YOU EXPANSION, DAMN YOU!!!

Ive never had a problem with it because they cant learn new abilities that other higher lvls can offer like a higher lvl'd prowl, u could always find a higher lvl pet with the similar look, with better skills

I'm going to cross my fingers and hope for another stable sloth with the new expansion, Fuzzy. ;)
However I'm not going to level up another excruciatingly low pet until I know for sure.

Spent waaay too much time leveling my rotting Agam'ar from razor Fen Kraul. I don't think I've seen another one like him (black with turquoise patches) tamed on my realm.

My other pets I could give up in a second, but Kitty (yeah, I thought it was funny to name him that) and I are in it for the long haul.

I have a red lynx that i got for my draenai at lvl 10.

Red lynx only come in the < lvl 10 variety from deep in the BE noob area.

Only one other person ive seen in the alliance on my server has one.

Her name is Sonja [yes, as in Red Sonja] and i love her so.

I was thinking of getting a red raptor named Clevergirl and i used to have a bright blueberry scorpid from the barrens called gilgamesh. But i loved sonja more and after scorpid poison went down i concentrated on Sonja.

Eventually maybe in Wotlk ill get a 2nd one. Ill never get rid of her. SHe's very unique on my server and will be horrible to level again.

That and it was quite the effort as a level 10 to go from exodar--darkshore-menethil-arathi-hillbrad-wpl-epl-2nd stage be area-1st stage be area

Iam thinking of having her for 5 mans and raids. While having a ravager for solo work. But really. I wanna show her off in the open :\

I'd say that it's ok to use her as soloing pet as well - the difference btw ravagers and cats is not that great to have both if you are not an pvping elf (when you absolutely want a cat 'cause of prowl)
If you want the best soloing pet, go for the carrion bird, but it is perfectly OK to solo with a cat.

on the topic - I absolutely can't get rid of my Humar, eventhough I don't use him anymore - it's just not right to let go a pet that you camped for three days...
