According to MMO-Champ. Kalgan said that they will be doing away with the spell damage stat in gear for the future. Instead of +healing or +spell damage, the bonus damage will be derived from talents and something else that they will be using to replace the current caster stats.

Will spirit finally mean something to all casters??

I can't wait to find out. Itemnization has always been playing a nasty game with us. Hopefully there is some nice balance in the expac.

Perhaps I am not getting it right, but wouldn´t that mean that there will be more competition for the same item, both dps and healing will be rolling for it?

yes and no at the same time.

Without +healing Paladins and Shamans will have their healing coefficient from somewhere else as opposed to their current way of spirit not affecting them at all.

Paladins and Shamans might get into each other's way but they will need less gear for offspecs.

so far what is being discussed as the stat that will be removed is the +spelldamage and +healing stat. For DPSing, hit (they can introduced an expertise like stat for casters but meh...) and crit will be more important. So despite the removal of the stats, the healers would still want certain pieces more given the stats that replace +healing.

This would reduce the number of sets some hybrids need and reduce wasteage since the healers can take a offensively tuned piece of equipment and use it as part of their healing set.
