Was wondering if it was worth dual wielding these http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=25825. Have the foe reaver in my off hand and sadly the vanquisher's sword in main hand. Was wondering if dual wielding the footman would be a good idea, or just getting one to replace my sad vanquisher's sword.

You have the Foe Reaver in your off hand ???? and the vanquisher's in your main hand ???

Please tell me you don't actually have the Foe Reaver (a 2.6 speed sword) in your OH ... please tell me you've done this because you have no idea how combat potency works, and you're admitting that you need to go and read the talent description ... and that you will do that right away !!!!!

Look at the auction house for a fast sword, you should EASILY be able to find one with no problem at all .. .anything you find (especially if it's an outland drop, ie, level 58) will be a million times better than the vanquisher's. If you can't find fast sword, get a dagger ... anything, but it must be fast ... whatever you do, get that foe reaver out of your off hand. Sheesh dude, I've been a rogue for 40 levels now, and I understand this ... and I'm still 5 levels away from even sniffing combat potency.

Another thing ... I've just got my Vanquisher's now ... yes, that's nearly 25 levels less than you, it's not only sad that you still have it, it's irresponsible.

Sorry, I sometimes get a bit worked up !!

*edit* ... sorry, Forgot to mention ... you should do ok with the Foe reaver in main hand over the Footman's sword ... it has a slightly higher damage range, and will do better with SS. The footman's DOES have a much higher DPS though .. .soooo .. dunno 'bout that too much .. I would try both, see how they go. But seriously, get a FAST weapon in your off hand.

I read somewhere once (think it was on EJ), that every 0.1 second that your off hand weapon is faster, you gain about 10 more effective dps !

As you are leveling go for highest DPS weapon you can find in MH and fastest weapon you can find in OH.

Make sure that the weapon you choose is the same as your weapon spec. So no Daggers in a Swords build or Maces in a Fists build for example.

You mean highest average damage per swing, not highest damage per second.

To be fair, I don't think that Combat Potency mentions the way it works in the tooltip. One could easily assume it works on a PPM system.

MH should have high average damage (add the minimum damage to the maximum and divide by two).

OH should be fast for more combat potency procs* (important) and more poison procs (less important).

*proc = activatation of an ability

"Gives your successful offhand melee attacks a 20% chance to generate 15 Energy"

that should be more than enough for seeing how it works.
it scales directly with speed. the faster your OHweapon, the more poison procs on that hand, and the more energy you generate.

Love how no one really said yes or no on duel wielding the footman. So from the jumbled replies I get, I should take the footman in my man hand and just hit the AH for a fast OH?

People did answer your question, not only that, if you listened, they were teaching you to fish. Use the highest damage weapon in your main hand and fastest in your off-hand. If you heard that, you SHOULD be able to answer this question for yourself.

No. Don't use it for either. Its too low damage for main hand and too slow for off-hand. That foe reaver you have in your off-hand will be better in your main hand than the Footman's Longsword.

Now get the dirt out your ears and listen when people give you good guidelines even if it doesn't directly answer your question ;)
