Need advice for restro druidFollow

My guild has too many active melee types and I've been asked if I could consider healing on some raids instead. I have no problem with it (though I need practice first! Last raid healing I did was on EQ 3 years ago)

I was looking at the gears I've farmed over time "just in case" and they are... well... crap but better than nothing. I do need advice on the main hand:

I wanted to get http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=29175 but I'm still honored (almost revered) and it would take too many runs through dungeon to get me through 21k of revered to get exalted. I currently have: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=31342;source=live but not soulbound yet. A moron listed it in AH for only 500g but if there's a better buyable weapon somewhere I can sell it for money. I am exalted with Sryer, Shattered Sun, and Cenariun Expedition, Revered with Lower City and Mag'Har, and honored with the rest of Outland cities.

Also what other buyable gears could I find? If they are better than what I got, I'll upgrade. I have around 3000g (plus more if I sell that staff)

Finally can you suggest a talent tree that best suits healer? It'd probably be PVE healer for raids as I don't plan to do any PVP as healer. Finally any for-dummies guide on raiding for restro druid?

I'm not the leading expert on healing raids and what not, if I am ever asked to heal a raid it's purely because I was dpsing and a main healer went down or something. But as for a resto build I'm pretty sure the standard arena build would work, a restokin build, or even a full out resto build. I don't have links for em because you can generally tweak them to your fitting. So I'll just throw those names out until someone more qualified can give you better info.

For a weapon I'd try to get Rod of The Blazing Light of Vexallus in heroic MrT.

The scepter isn't bad but kinda lacks spirit and is thus more of a paladin mace (though an ideal pally mace would have spell crit on it as well I guess)

Other buyable gear could be Hood of Primal Life and Gloves of the Living Touch from your local leatherworker.

For a pure PvE spec, just put everything into resto. Something like this.

For guides etc I refer you to Gryphonstalker's excellent resource guide, where you will find links to usefull posts and blogs.

I'll let everyone else give gear information. Here's my tip: if you're getting started as a healer, do yourself a favor and go get the addon Healbot. You won't regret it. :)

The Gavel of Pure Light is acceptable and better than some unfortunate choices Druids have when using Main Hand w/ Offhand builds. Some of the staves out there have very good returns on Spirt which is a huge boost if you need the Mana Regen that may be lacking from other pieces in your gear set if you're starting from scratch.

I'm currently using the Gavel, simply because I've been passing other MH healing maces in waiting for Light's Justice...one of the few MH maces that have Spirit on them. There's a lot of purchasable items you could use to fill spots that need gear for healing, but the hard part is finding someone to make them for you or finding them on the AH...which may or may not happen. You're best bet would be to tear through Karazhan/Gruul's and get a few pieces on some easier Raid runs than to sit idle and wait for purchasable items.

Oh, while going 61 points into Resto is cool if you have other toons and doing like to farm on your Druid (ie. you only get on your Druid to raid), I wouldn't suggest it if you have any plans on playing your Druid other than raiding. I'm 41/20 Resto/Feral...and I find very little difference from anytime I was heavier in Resto, but I can tear through Daily's and even tank Reg instances with my Bear set if needed. So it really increases the playability of your Druid if you take 41 points and go offspec into Balance or Feral. GL!

I bought the essence focuser and the staff of divine infusion, until I had some drops fall my way.
I still use the staff as my spirit stick. I would resell the scepter myself since I feel you will find a suitable replacement sooner than later. Yes you bought it for a good price but I'd still resell it.
It might of been on there so cheap because the seller couldn't sell it to begin with. The gavel is much better imo as well vs that scepter. Given the options I would get the gavel or look for the focuser
There are 2 nice maces that drop in kara, which will replace any of the options you listed in my opinion.

as for dummy guides, there are many many guides out there on being a resto
a site called resto4life comes to mind right off.
Look at the stickies here, read the stickies on the oboard and wowhead.

by the way I'm a 60 point resto and do well in getting through my dailies and farming content as needed.
I have a dps set of gear and go to it in cat form. I didn't like my dmg output in caster form with my +heal/dmg gear on.

Both the scepter and gavel are good choices for druid healing mainhands. They may not be tailored to druid healers, but they both will do fine for someone starting out. I still use my Gavel of Pure Light in T5 content due to horrible luck with drops of Light's Justice, Staff of Dark Mending, ect. Another option for you if you wanted to maximize your spirit would be the Serpentcrest Life-Staff, which drops in Steamvaults.

As far as other gear goes just remember not to pigeon-hole yourself into the leather and only leather mentality. Some of the cloth healing drops will be the best for your druid untill T6. Some good options are the Whitemend Hood, Gloves of the Living Touch, Belt of the Long Road, and Whitemend Pants. Beyond that if you've started running heroics the badge gear for druid healers is great and in many cases the best untill T6 content. You can check out http://www.lootrank.com/wow/rank.asp?Cla=1024&Max=10&Slot=0&mp5=100&heal=26&Int=30&Spi=45&has=10 for a list of Druid gear, From there you can toggle your loot sources to meet your current proegression level.

Checkout Gryphonstalker's resoure section for great resources for resto druids. In particular I like http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t17783-druid_raiding_tree/.
