This is a public service announcement, as I've seen two threads already today talking about "top end damage".

IT DOES NOT MATTER.

Your AVERAGE DAMAGE is what matters.

Learn your ******' class mechanics, people.

On bosses, maybe. Damage on trash, average or not, means about as much as 4th place at the Olympics.

It's not my fault that you're ambiguous.

Heuh?

How about Hand of the Deceiver vs. Brutal Gladiator's Right Ripper.

Drakefist Hammer vs. Gladiator's Pummeler.

Or Claw of Molten Fury vs. Blade of Infamy.

Lots of other examples available.

Easy enough to find out why Theo is right about this. You can find this on wowwiki:

wowwiki wrote:
Auto-attack formula:
(Attack Power / 14) * Weapon Speed + Weapon Damage = Damage

Sinister strike (top rank) formula:
(Attack Power / 14) * Normalized Weapon Speed + Weapon Damage + 98 = Damage

Normalized weapon speeds are as follows:

* Dagger: 1.7
* 1H Melee: 2.4
* 2H Melee: 3.3

For a combat rogue, your auto-attack and SS damage is the majority of your output and is calculated from your main hand weapon. "Weapon Damage" is the average of the low and top end of the weapon damage as noted in its tool-tip.

happy hunting

for all you smart people

weapon DPS x weapon speed = average weapon damage

thats what you should go off of most of the time, not counting sh*tty weapons like failsteel longblade or sh*t like that

example

drakefist hammer
84.3 dps x 2.7 = 227.61 average damage

S1 MH mace
91.2 dps x 2.6 = 237.12 average damage

then you can judge, is my average damage difference + weapon stats/proc worth the switch?

in this case, id go S1 hammer... since i like that multitude of stats and higher damage over a haste proc

the easy way to figure out whatchu want..... just need calculator

Concerning this, as I am still retarded, which would be better? Assuming I am using badge fist OH, would staying with fists in both hands be better or would going Sword/Fist spec increase my damage with the extra attacks from Sword spec?

Weapons I have are, Blade of Infamy, both Hyjal trash fists, and the Badge OH fist. Best pair for raid dps would be... ?

Spreadsheet. Use it.

But, I Fist/Sword only works with Sword in off hand because the sword spec procs from the OH hit with the MH which gains the 5% crit from fist spec.

And honestly, I'm not sure whether Hyjal Fist/Hyjal Fist or Hyjal Fist/Badge Fist is better. Check the spreadsheet.

Hyjal/badge is better than hyjal/hyjal.

Badge/badge is better still, though I think other upgrades will probably be better than the badge MH at that point.

Agreed.

But as an aside, you are better off actually knowing the mechanics than just trusting an automated formula. I know many, many players who have high imba scores but are in actuality terribad. Usually when I start asking questions and having a conversation with these people, they invariably note that "well, my belt is #2 on such-and-such list, so, like, I'm awesome." Which, invariably, they are not ;P

Things like the rogue spreadsheet, maxdps, warlocks den, the tankadin epic list, etc are all useful sources of information and comparative analysis. But you can't replace knowledge with automation.

Free your mind from the oppressive shackles of our digital oppressors!!!
