Feral: Shapeshifter or Tenacity?Follow

Hey, I have a question about my last 3 talentpoints. Currently I am at 67 with my Feral, I have filled all the standard spots in the Feral and Resto trees and am wondering what to do with my last 3 points. Should I put them into Primal Tenacity for the 15% stun/fear reduction or put them into shapeshifter?

I guess the main question is, is the 15% worth it? I don't find mana a huge problem, but obviously the 30% mana reduction would help. I don't pvp (and if I did I'd probably spec Resotkin), does it help that much against bosses and such?

I would probably take shapeshifter. Even in PvP I think it's better because a lot of times you need to shapeshift out of root effects and polymorph.

Being able to resist stun/fear effects sounds good, but it most likley would work MAYBE once per fight.

Against bosses it MIGHT be OK because you're not really shapeshifting that much so the 30% mana reduction would be almost pointless.

Those are just my opionions. I haven't PvP'd at 70 as feral, but what I said sounds right lol

Shapeshifter. The amount that you get stunned or feared just really isn't worth the points unless you're perhaps doing a lot of PvP. Solo questing (or perhaps moreso in PvP) I do a lot of shapeshifting (as should any feral druid) and I really noticed the loss when I respecced for pure tanking.

The 15% is very nice to have for a raiding or pvp spec.

For example, on the Nightbane fight, resisting one of the fears can make it go much more smoothly. Or in underbog, with those mobs that fear, it can work wonders. While it's not too bad as a kitty to get feared, as a tank, it could cause a lot of problems. You won't really be shifing out of form a lot during most raiding/instances anyway.

In PvP it's also a nice thing to have. I love to see a warlock try to fear me, then crit his pants when I come charging in right away. :)
I will say this, however. Shapeshifter is a little better for PvP, due to the frequent need to break movement-impairing effects.

So, in conclusion - Tenacity:
Raiding/Instances:Yes
PvP:Maybe
Solo:Hell no!

I took Shapeshifter and I'm very pleased with it. I'm a lone wolf cat, though. If I did PVP I'd have thought harder about Tenacity, I suppose.

IMO shapeshifter is pretty useless for groups & raiding (you don't switch that much and you usually stay in one form long enough to get your mana back by the time you shift again). For solo, if you have to switch too much from cat too bear you have to pay more attention :P

Tenacity isn't something you can rely on obviously and is quite useless for soloing as well, but in groups/raids it's a nice suprise if you resist something.

I went Shapeshifter. 15% isn't a huge increase with the fear mechanic, and is very unreliable. The static mana cost reduction is amazingly useful in solo and PvP play (ESPECIALLY in PvP). In fact, I'd say that Shapeshifter > Tenacity in PvP hands down. Use your darn trinkets to break fear like everyone else! And then shapeshift to get out of movement impairing moves.

If you ONLY raid or group, then tenacity has a slight hand up on shapeshifter, just because you won't be shapeshifting mid-combat. That would be the only time I would take it, however. If you PvP at all, go with Shapeshifter.

Does anyone still Powershift as a cat?

You beat me to it tabstopper. I was going to bring that up lol. I still power shift and if I didn't have shapeshifter I'd be outa luck most the time. With tenacity you get 15%, which means you'll be resisting 1 out of 6 fears (I think) . I really can't say I get feared that much.

The only reason you should go for tenacity is if you tank a lot if 5-man instances for badges. The ability to sometimes resist stuns and fears in those instances are quite nice.

However I would personally prefer natural shapeshifter. For raids the ability to powershift a lot, use tranquility and still have mana to combat res is golden. Your role in a raid is to fit in where needed, and that means you may have to shift a lot. Even when just dps'ing, you should powershift as soon as you have less than 10 energy on the bar to maximise dps.

In pvp natural shapeshifter wins even more over tenacity. As already pointed out, you need to constantly need to shift out of movement impairing effects. Since you state that you don't really pvp, you can ignore the pvp reasons ofc.

So what is better for you depends on what you do with your druid, small group, raids, pvp, solo?

FYI: powershift = instantly shifting out of and back into form to gain a burst of energy (or rage) from furor talent

Hell yes. I just started using the new macros at Elitist Jerks. I estimate it has increased my DPS by 150-200 DPS! The macro checks to make sure you have enough mana to shift back and aren't on global cooldown so it works really well unless your latency is bad.

The thread discussing it at Elitist Jerks is here.

In my case, the question is:

"Does anyone get to play DPS constantly? I sure don't :-("

I'm jealous of you guys; my Druid is a tank through and through. In this case, I still say that Tenacity has a slight upper hand. I highly doubt you're constantly shifting out of bear in a fight!

If you're a DPSer, hell yes, go for the powershift! When I think of druids in PvE, if they aren't Resto or Boomkin, they're usually tanks. Least they have been in the raids I've been in (which admittedly, are not a ton).

Hands down I'm with you, I very rarely get to DPS outside of solo play. So I took Tenacity, because I want every edge I can get as a tank. No matter how minor it may be; besides I absolutely completely despise being feared and mostly that 15% makes me feel better. ^^;

The other thing I have to conisider for Primal Tenacity for PvE is that most bosses we are currently doing don't have fears or stuns that are a problem. Nightbane is cake for me now as long as the healers & DPS can stay alive and that was the only one that was ever much of a problem with fears.

There may be other fights in BT & Hyjal we haven't got to yet (still in SSC & TK) but with a couple of priests for fearward & a tremor totem down they shouldn't be a problem (and thats if I'm tanking instead of OT'ing).

We are very lucky at the moment that we have these "spare" talent points for us to spend to our own tastes. By the look of the talents in the coming expansion, we are going to have to make some really tough decisions about which talents we take. It may be a case of being 100% bear 75% cat or 75% bear 100% cat compared to at the moment we can spec & be at 98100% for each form pretty much (those extra talents really are only a little bit of icing on the cake).
