0/61/0 - Am I missing something?Follow

So, just ran with a rogue this weekend and, as usual, I did a quick inspect before the raid and found to my horror that he was spec'd 0/61/0.

Yes.

Really.

Did I miss a memo or something? I really wanted to ask him "Why, dear sweet Jesus WHY?" but by that point we were done buffing and counting down on the first pulls.

Anyone know why someone would build like this other than ignorance? I see no good reason why someone would build this way, but I'm no expert. His damage was Ok (he wasn't ruling the meters by any stretch), a bit low but Ok. I don't "get it", but.....

I just figured I'd share with the class.

Opinions?

A lot of people who haven't done research figure it's probably best to put all your talents in one tree. It's mainly due to not thinking though. Maybe it's his first build and he's never bothered to respec?

I would normally just laugh it off to the lack of research or whatever.

But we were in Gruuls....

Reminds me of an spriest my guild turned down who was specced 0/0/61. Now, some classes it's alright to put all 61 in a single tree. Resto shamans and druids come to mind immediately. But they're hybrids. The vast majority of talents they need are in that single trees, as the others deal with completely different things (like ranged casting or melee).

But rogues are pure melee. Nothing else (ok there is CC but it is CC done in melee range). Thus all 3 talent trees have talents useful directly for melee combat. Technically I don't know how...ok i just checked a talent calculator, it is possible to fit 61 talent points in combat without taking blade twisting (/shudder), but it involves putting points in either multiple weapon specs or solo survivability talents like lightning reflexes 5/5.

There will undoubtedly be a lot of dps lost through not getting the essential 11-16 points in assassination, but having the others in combat and using a decent rotation and gear will still allow damage to be dealt. (Hell, you could deal "some" damage specced 0/0/0 and using AP gems.) Just...so much potential damage going unrealised.

Therion I feel like the honest answer would have been Ebayer. In my opinion, there is no other logical explanation for the spec, but then again there are alot of ignorant "scrubs" out there who think they know their class. My personal belief is that you can never stop learning your class. That is why you should be on here or other site reading others post to gain knowledge from them. If I were you I would whisper that guy and talk with him about it. If you don't want to let me know his name and I will create a character on your realm and say it. :P
