So I guess I am a reborn noob again and it sucks. Played wow for about a year and half after its initial release and this is after going from EQ to shadowbane (if anyone remembers that one lol) then to WoW. I had a high lvl pally (cant quiet remember how high tho) and I left WoW when hearing all the ruckus about how pallys were overpowered. So anyway I come back to WoW and I have a lvl 16 human Mage and enjoying the hell out of burning things But to be honest I am pretty freaked out at all these new add-ons, new raids and gear and battlegrounds and instances...its all new to me again and now I want to PvP bad but dont think I will be decent without having all these confusing add ons and such! I am hoping the only add on I will be needing is the bartender or some similiar program as a basic PvP tool right? Bottom line I just wanted to know what addons u PvP mages have and what is useless to have. It seems the PvP got more fast paced since I have been gone and it jsut seems like a click fest. I plan on going Heavy Fire PvP and MAYBE re speccin at higher lvls just to try frost ...but anyway any new gear for PvP i should worry about getting or any subjects u guys feel like bringing up that I have missed out on would be great.....thanks and safe travels!

For PvP, especially low level PvP, you don't really need much. The built in WoW UI has a lot of the same features that add-ons were required for back in the day when you left the game. (ie scrolling combat text, enemy cast bars, etc.) One that I can think of that is useful for BGs is Deadly Boss Mod. It was features for the BG "instances" such as flag cap timers (AV, AB), and for WSG it has the name of the FC next to the flag score. I particularly like that feature since you can click the name to target the enemy or friendly flag carrier without typing. A user interface such as xperl or perl classic supports focus frames, however that is more useful for arena fighting (level 70).

Keep in mind though, mods don't make the PvPer. Almost all good PvPers were probably good before they found the mods they currently use.

Oh, and lower level PvP = death for mages as twinked rogues will 1 or 2 shot you.

Mages can PVP, but we are not the best class for it ATM. You can be good, but there is a reason that we are generally under represented in the PVP community.

That said - the above advice is true. I'm lvling a Paly - I hopped into BG at 19 and again at 29.... Wow - guys with stats and gear that would rival the money (and then some) I spent on my Main - at 70.... I ended up just leaving the BG - it was useless.

You really don't need too many add-ons to PVP as a mage. We have a couple of buffs, they last a long time. Get into the UI and put the bars on the screen. You are going to use a few things in PVP - not too many that you have to use crazy macros.
