Folks;

Well, my pally is finally in kara, and is holy. During the netherspite fight, a caster is in the blue beam (my wife, in this case, on her gnome mage). She only has 6.2K health, so keeping her alive can be a problem. If I BoP her during her tanking of the blue beam (e.g. during the last few seconds of the fight), will she keep tanking the blue beam or would it go through her?

I do not believe the beam is physical damage, which means BoP would do nothing to prevent her from getting her face melted.

6.2k hp is low low low and with that kind of situation you should have 2 people on that rotation switching when the debuff hits 20. (call it out at 18 so person has time to make switch)

Ideally you want a lock in there who can use Drain Life to help keep himself up and has lots of stam if it is going to be one person taking a full rotation.

EDIT: bah, too late :(

I... have... no idea. I can't recall any time where I've BoPed someone in the Blue Beam.. it won't help though.

Most of the damage taken in the Netherspite fight is MAGICAL damage from Netherspites Aura that DoTs everyone during the portal phase, and BoP won't do anything to prevent it.

You should have 2 DPS swap out tanking the Blue beam each phase. The first takes 20 stacks then gives it to the second, then have 2 OTHER DPS tank it next phase and just keep rotating. There are only 2 classes that are really good at tanking the Blue beam the WHOLE phase. Shadow Priests (especially ones with imp. VE, yea... the only reason to have it :D) are AMAZING Blue Beam tanks... with all the damage they do, the group that they're in won't need any healing against the DoT. SL/SL (or any affliction) Locks are also great Blue Beam tanks. They can drain enough life to keep them alive despite the increase in damage -- though they don't help the rest of the group stay up like a Shadow Priest.

Remember, anyone used to block the Green Beam can block the Blue Beam on the next phase.. exhaustion only applies for the COLOR that you did last phase. Being as you're probably using a Rogue or Warrior to block the Green beam most of the time (unless healers need more mana).

Rogues/warr in the green beam as it lowers the energy/rage cost of all abilities(i keep forgetting to spec mut or daggers for kara just for this fight, backstab costs only about 20 energy by the end of a phase), sp/locks in blue beam and tanks in red. If you're really having issues keeping blue beam tank alive make sure you're using shadow resist buffs and maybe have them throw on any SR gear(PvP gear works too as resilience will lower the dam taken i believe, at the very least provide a higher stam pool) if they have any.

Have someone pick up the beam from her at 20-25 stacks and have her Ice Block off the damage debuff. Stamina gear would not be a bad thing in this fight either, btw.

Okay, thanks for the tips. We did have her as the first dps slot in a two person rotation... it was just that her health was so freakin low and I was looking for a way to help her out with that. I reckon that she could use a crapload of +stam gear like is used for Krosh in the High King encounter.

Thanks folks for all your advice.

if she's frost, have her ice barrier before taking the beam. when the buff turns to debuff she should have the CD ready for another ice barrier. she may also want to mix in constant mana shields and health pots. i have about +1000 frost dmg so i can usually count on ice barrier alone to absorb enough dmg to be the only caster on that beam rotation without taxing the healers.

if she's not frost, she will probably need to swap out. mana shield alone is too weak and mana reliant at entry level Kara.

Don't have her go all out like she would for Krosh. She may want some stamina gear, but to go to the level of that would gimp her sorely when you guys may find yourselves struggling to beat the timer.

As a fire mage with spellfire, I also have very very low hp. I have even started to socket for stam to increase my survivability. However, I also carry around my pvp gear set with me. It is mostly s1 replacing the spellfire, and gives me over 1500 hp more than my pve gear. I do lose about 150 +fire damage, but for fights like netherspite or something that I will be taking a lot of damage, it has saved my life and kept me dpsing much longer.

I suggest your wife do some pvping and get at least 3 pieces of pvp gear. It is worth it, since a dead mage does no damage.

Another possible (even quicker) fix than going in to PvP grinds... in 2.4, new rep reward gear was introduced to quartermasters in Honor Hold, Lower City, Sha'tar, Keepers of Time and Cenarion Expedition (going from memory).

Take a look at these items, they only require Honored to buy (which is very easy to achieve if you're not there already).

I can't speak for the mage gear myself, but I use the Ret Paladin set on my Prot Paladin, and it stacks quite a tidy sum of stamina :-D
