boomkin druid?Follow

#1 Jun 08 2008 at 11:03 PM Rating: Decent
thinking of startin up either a boomkin druid or an arcane mage, 2 talent builds i ahvent really messed with.. done a resto druid a bit and never played a mage much

anyway was just wondering what i should focus on as a boomkin, what stats are most important? high int, focus on spelldmg? how importants sta, spell hit/crit

really lookin for a genearal overview as ive not grouped with many boomkins and really am not sure how they play at all.. are they burst damage, sustained damage, what should i concentrait on what are my main spells gonna be? Are they pretty easy to lvl or what?

From the FAQ, in order of most desired.
Quote:
+spell damage, +spellcrit, Mana/5, Int, Spi

We're not really burst damage, as the main damaging spells are Wrath, Starfire, Moonfire and Insect Swarm. Moonfire and Insect Swarm are dots (moonfire is an insta cast damage+dot spell) And in pve/raids you'll usually use Starfire the most, as it's the most mana effective spell (and if talented with it, can stun)

Most people would say 'level as feral then switch later' but as someone who leveled 1-70 as Balance, I say it's perfectly fine to level as balance and enjoyed the ride. you can cast roots in mobs then nuke them to the ground. When we get moonkin form you dont need to root as much, as if you start off firing spells, when they're close to you, you can dot em up and then attack with your weapon, since you get mana back from melee attacks, and Moonkin have 400% armour.

Moonkins are capable of burst damage (though it depletes your mana very fast) using Wrath.
You're better off starfiring though, as it has better spell coefficients (when talented right) than wrath, and has a better damage-per-mana ratio.

really spell crit before int and mp5? if a lot are dot based id think it would be further back. Notinterested, you say you dont agree.. what would you consider the order?

i dont like lvling one way then switching i like lvling as the build i plan on playing, lvld as a holy priest, ect.

is it worth goin down the balance tree far enough for omen of clarity? was thinkin of doin the root stuff down the balance tree but thats a good point about root later on.. may use it earlier then get rid of it at a later point

Omen of Clarity is useless to a moonkin... UNLESS you are one of the few who melee fights and doesnt root. A better situation IMO is to go full Furor, 3/3 Natural Shapeshifter, 2 points into either of the tier 2 talents and then Intensity 3/3. This way you'll end up with more mana regen which for us "oomkins" is kind of necessary.

As for stats I dont really agree with the stat order personally. Spell crit isnt all that important seeing as with just a normal amount of spell crit you can get from some items is generally enough to have you hovering around 12-15% unbuffed and 17-20% in moonkin form. IMO it should be like this. Spell Damage > Mp5 > Int > Spirit. Besides I don't feel moonkins are all about burst damage, yes it's entirely possible to do it, I just don't like doing it in raids or instances. I suppose it'll just depend on how you want to use your moonkin.

Oh and I almost forgot, Brambles is useless don't fall into that trap!

My $0.02

I dont agree with the list because crit shouldnt even be on it. You will end up with more than enough crit going for +Damage, Int, Mp5 and spirit.

Also where is spell hit?!
