Some newb 70 hunter questions.Follow

#1 Jun 07 2008 at 11:48 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a newb to 70 - my hunter hit 70 yesterday so I'm trying to wrap my head around everything, so i've been doing some DPS math based off an assumption.
I'm quite sure that this would have been answered previously however I have failed in finding the answer.
Really my question is if a 20% speed increase (eg. Serpents Swiftness) increases your (3.00 speed) weapon's speed by deducting 600 milliseconds (0.60 seconds - Reducing it to 2.40) would the quiver I have deduct an additional 15% from my base weapon speed of 3.00 or from my newly acquired speed of 2.40? If the answer is the latter then in what order of percentages is my weapon speed decreased/increased?

Ive been working off the assumption that it's deducted directly from the base speed.

I'm also curious about changing my spec to survival, this is how I am Currently spec'd. Im more into the PvE side of WoW, looking forward to running Kara and other higher end raids... I'd just like some comments or any recommendations on how I could / should spec. I feel that survival would be good for me because I tend to have trouble keeping people at range in PvP; and I often get singled out by multiple targets (which is the thing that causes my death most in PvP - as I'm sure is the case for most people) - I believe having the extra CC / Health would help me deal with these circumstances.

Thanks in advance.

with a 3.0 speed weapon you'll end up at:
3.0 / (1.2 x 1.15) = 2.17 attack speed.

So calculate by dividing your pre-haste speed by quiverhaste x Serpent's Swiftness x haste % from haste rating.

I would strongly suggest that you gem and enchant everything possible before stepping foot into Kara. You may actually have some of those pieces for awhile before they are replaced with the uber phat epics. If all your gear is not gemmed/enchanted properly, you are not going to get the max dps out of your toon.

Also, get a better ranged weapon and put a scope on it. (Valano's longbow 50 gold in AH now!)

Now that you are 70 gold become less of an issue. There are tons of dailys available to you now so, get crackin'.

As far a spec is concerned, typically there is like 1 SV hunter in a raid party or even in a guild for that matter... I personally have never been full SV but was MM/SV when I raided through Kara and the cc did come in handy. Good luck and have fun.

Haste stacks, and this is why imp hawk is so good.

Don't bother getting a crit scope or the nethercobra on your pants though. Expensive stuff like that save for the badge gear you'll get really fast (and it's crazy good). Enchants you should always get as they're cheap. Of course if you have copious amounts of money feel free, but cobrahide is pretty close, for a lot less.

Don't do an SV spec just so you'll have a better time keeping people in range. That won't be an issue in raids--either the tank will have control of the target and you won't have to worry about range, or you'll be pulling agro so often that your guild won't let you raid anymore. In PvE, once you get in range, you should be OK. You will do a lot of moving around, but the DPS sacrifice you make for 6 extra yards of range isn't worth it.

SV is a great raiding spec but it's very gear specific and not necessarily easy to play. You give up personal DPS to increase raid DPS, and in a 10 man setting the benefits aren't that great. I suggest do the cookie cutter BM/mm spec through Karazhan. Once you get some good SV gear and start doing 25 man raids more often, consider making the jump if SV still attracts you.
