in only at level 15, but i decided to try using a bow instead of my thrown weapon. i went to the weapon master, learned how to use a bow, and then bought one. i equipped the bow and the arrows and dragged the bow into my action bar in place of my thrown weapon, but nothing happens when i try to use it. i have no idea why. can somebody explain whats wrong?
also, when i put the bow in the action bar, the logo has a green border around it, does that mean anything?

Go to your spellbook and abilities(P), drag shoot onto your action bar, from the general tab.

bc, did you drag the bow itself to your action bar or did what devz said? That may be your problem, if you dragged the bow instead of the shoot action.
Also, need ammo in the little box next to where your ranged weapon slot is. No ammo, no shooting.

Helpful little macro that I use because I used to have a gun for my PvE set and a thrown weapon for PvP:
/cast [noequipped: Thrown] Shoot;
/cast [equipped: Thrown] Throw
That way you can bind one key to it and whether you have a gun/bow/xbow or a thrown weapon, you'll still use a ranged weapon.
