I was doing a heroic the other night with a fellow survival hunter. After the first pull it was clear this guy could not cc properly. We were fine for a little while...I took over the freezing and we had an offtank for the 3 mob pulls...but then the 4 mobs started coming. He was complaining that he hated freezing. This is my only toon at 70, so I definitely don't know nearly as much about this game as others, but am I correct in saying that survival is the best spec for cc? Isn't that the most important part of being survival when grouping for instances and raids? Also, he didn't bring his pet out at all. I know survival hunters without the proper gear don't have dps like MM or BM do, so wouldn't it make more sense to bring your pet out?? Do a lot of hunters that go through raids not use their pets? Unless he did a lot of pvp, wouldn't it be better to just go bm or mm and stand there and fire away?

A.) He was a ****** for "hating trapping." That's pretty much like a mage saying he hates sheeping. My response would be "Tough. Get over it."

B.) SV *raiding* (I don't count kara as a true raid, to me it is like UBRS pre-bc, except with a timer) doesn't mean trapping, it means putting up expose weakness on the boss so everyone has the extra AP. However instances SV can be quite nice if you spec into traps (most builds I see for pure raiding don't include trap stuff).

C.) Yes he was kinda stupid not using a pet. EVEN IF you try to say "you don't need pets for SV" it *still* is a little bit of extra damage done to the mob/boss and there's absolutely no reason to forgo using a pet completely.

Thats what I thought...funny when I checked how he specced himself, he didnt put any points into expose weakness, which i thought was kinda weird too. I mean, besides your party having extra ap, you get it too when your soloing. You can always use more ap right?

We talk about Huntards all the time. Looks like you found someone who actively chooses that label and strives to live by it.

SV is the CC god spec. If he can't trap properly, he either is in the wrong spec or isn't skilled enough in SV to fully understand it.

No hunter should be without a pet in a combat possible instance, see the other thread here on the front page. It just cuts down on your options, why would you ever actively remove options from yourself.

This guy needs to respec MM and stick with PvP as it seems that's how he plays. He could do BG's all day long and be semi-effective. He should not do Raids or Arena with the attitude he has. He jeopardizes the team and the Raid.
