Hello Druids

Ok here is the deal, my friend just hit 70 with his druid he is going to be a healer in our group and we are going to help him get geared up.

What does a healing druid need

1. to do heroics
2. to get into kara/and beyond

3. what stats does he need for these
4. what is the best spec for these

5. what enchants should we be aiming for
6. what armor pieces or sets if any should we be trying to get for him
7. what gems should we be trying to get for him

8. and if there is anything else I should know please tell me.

(. Thank you all in advance for any/all help you can give me.

I'll put it this way - I had 1200 healing before I stepped foot into Kara, it's pretty easy to obtain, that's what I'd shoot for. Same for heroics.

Spec wise I'd go for everything resto except +healing touch talents for raiding, you'll never use the spell.

+Healing enchants, and +healing/+spirit gems (pearls) are for blue sockets, +healing/+int for yellow, and +healing for red.

Oh, and get the lifebloom idol from Shadowlabs, it's awesome.

Well,

I first entered a heroic on my druid when i had about 700 healing.

Needless to say, it failed epically.

So i geared up a bit more and the next time i had about 1.1k, that time it worked well

So if you are planning to go to heroics/kara, I would recommend about 1k healing

:)

I started running heroics and Kara at about +1000. You can go earlier than if the rest of the group is overgeared and skilled. You probably need more than that in most PuGs.

I mostly use the Dreamstate build, I find it more adapted to heroic instances. For a quick boost in your +healing, I suggest running battlegrounds for a few days to obtain this, and enchant it as soon as you can afford it.

For the rest of your gear, look up the Moonglade set, it's an excellent start.

I found this list to be really helpful:

If your friend is the third healer in Kara runs he could probably start right away. Keeping hots on the group is very helpful, especially during fights like maiden, plus the BR during a fight is FTW!

It isn't so much that his gear is bad, it's that it doesn't look like it has a focus. He has 2 pieces of Kodohide(healing) 1 piece of Wyrmhide(DPS Caster) and 1 piece of Dragonhide(Feral) and a DPS caster staff. I think if he can go to the vendors and pick up all the Kodohide gear as well as scan the AH for a Healer staff or even pick up the PVP mace then he would be much better off.

As was said before, he could maybe offheal Kara, but most groups are going to be looking for you to have at least 800+ healing before even that. I was offhealing Kara as feral spec with 950+ heal in my healing gear on some fights and that was a stretch even then. If the group is willing to take him then I'd be all for it, the experience is definitely a great one to have and Kara is actually easier for a lot of groups than heroics since there will always be a couple extra healers to help out.

If he can just focus on the gear that is oriented for healing than I think with just those 2-3 Healing type upgrades he will see a definite difference in his +heal/mana pool.
