i have a habit of not watching my pets meter anyone else have this problem and it seems the higher i get the harder it is to level up my pet and train her.. i almost lost her because of my meter but i was getting slammed and alot of people just walk by like you got a pet you dont need no help.. but then you are trying to fight, heal pet, and keep them happy which you cannot feed them while fighting and slowly watching pet get really mad.. then some things the kills it does not get no experience for .. like gee why they make me kill this if they not going to let pet get experience too.. and it is getting harder to find food the higher up my pet gets the harder it is to find because not all the beasts give me meat for her .. but i do fish alot and the ones too low for her i put in auction there is always a hunter or herbalist looking for fish. but the meat is hard to find on the auction for my pet, and sometimes it is not at inns it is too low for her. i have not got beyond fifty yet and i have quests all over the world i have went to thott bot about where to find her food and is scarce in the areas it gives me .. if anyone has this problem or the solutions to it let me know please...[poll]

my main pet as i was leveling was a bear. They are by far in my opinion the easiest pet, they eat just about anything. no i have a warp stalker and while it only eats fruit and fish i just find a vendor that sells the appropriate food. As far as keeping your pet happy go to your favorite addon website, i use www.curse.com, and download fizzwidget's feedomatic it will make you life as a pet owner WAY easier. tells you when ur pet is hungry and tells you what ur pet will eat or not. it also has a keybinding that will feed ur pet with one click.

just my op.

hwhat?

Anyways buy food if you really need to, leveling your pet gets slower the higher your level, though I find the grinding involved in leveling my character is sufficient to keep it high enough.

The golden rule with your pet is to keep the happy symbol green, yellow at worst. While this is green you can take on mobs at least 3 levels higher than you as your pet will do more damage....125% more in fact. So keep feeding her, even if you have to feed them your food, you know the stuff that will restore 524 hp over 20 secs, etc. Feeding your pet will also heal them as well.

As for leveling, your pet cannot be a higher level than you, ever! For example, if you are level 20 and your pet is level 19, it will gain xp until it gets to 20. Then its xp comes to a grinding halt and it will not any more until you get to 21. It may seem like the pet takes forever to gain levels, but it is not so. Pets need way less xp to gain a level than you do. I remember a time when I needed over 60,000 xp to get to the next level and my pet needed less than 10,000. Its the halt till you level up that makes it seem so long.

You should work on your cooking skill as well as the fishing. Cooked food has a higher level than uncooked food. So those fish you catch that are too low level may not be if you can cook them. Also, the higher the level of the food you feed your pet, the longer the gap between feeds to maintain happiness levels.

Take a break every now and then to kill cats, wolves, pigs and bears. These drop meat every so often that can be cooked (if you have the recipe and skill) or fed to your pet as is. Build up a supply before continuing to quest. If you can, pick on animals that are green as you can still earn xp (if they are grey you only get the drop and skin (if you are a skinner) and no xp). If you want to buy the food, see a general goods merchant as they sell food a pet can eat as well. To get the money to buy the food, grind on some humaniods for money and cloth (to auction as tailors always need it) and occassionaly you will get a drop of cooked meat for either you or your pet to eat.

Hope this helps and good hunting.

Well... What faction are you, and what is your pet?

You should never have to buy food from the AH for your pet. There are dedicated food vendors of all sorts. The first one that comes to mind if you're Alliance is in IF. There is a meat vendor that pats around by the battlemaster/hunter trainer. Once you get into Outland, there is a meat vendor in the Lower City by the Scryer's Tier.

And just feed your pet when you're out of combat. I can't think of a single level 50 zone in Azeroth where the mobs are packed in so tight that you can't take a moment to feed your pet before the next pull. I can't even think of anywhere at ALL.

Edit: Happy pets don't do 125% MORE damage. They do 125% of their base damage (yellow-happy), so it's a 25% damage increase. I'm sure that's what you meant, but I'm just making sure that it doesn't get misleading to anyone.
