4pc T6 questionFollow

#1 Jun 05 2008 at 9:57 AM Rating: Excellent
I just got my 4pc last night (yay shoulders replaced my nimble thought) and noticed that my crits are hitting for a bit more (about 6k on average, flasked/self buffed).

Do people do anything different to control their threat at the start? I feel like a nub asking, but I normally steadily move up the threat list, but I would wait about 10 seconds into phase1 before I started DPSing and next thing you knew I would be #2 or 3 (that is, of course, with a MD in there as well).

Oh, and this is also for Poldaran to be /jealous Smiley: cool

I usually just pray that my threat level does not go to high and allows the tank to maintain aggro. When I hit 6k or so on Arch or something I just go into a happy place and imagine I drew no aggro and it helps then you die. But to answer the question no not really just hope the tank can maintain it with are superhuman nuking abilities.

Haechoo. Smiley: mad

How early do you start popping cooldowns? It might be worth waiting a bit longer, perhaps? Or if you're really fully threat capped, perhaps using a different food buff might be in order(Skullfish Soup) just because it'd mean a small drop in DPS in exchange for a bit more mana efficiency?

Also grats, ya *******.

I don't even pop cooldowns because Ia m too busy with parasites on Illidan. On most fights I wait until I get bloodlusted or 30 seconds, whichever comes first.

Archimonde filled out my 4pc tonight also =), helm, shoulder, chest, glove, leggings of channeled elements.

BTW im wondering if anyone knows the rundown on numbers for haste, guildmaster is really pushing it over +dmg but I am wondering if I am getting too unbalanced with it. Unbuffed +fire damage is right about 1200, with 191 haste rating(12%). Does anyone know the numbers on the balance for this where damage once again becomes more valuable. I will run it on theorycrafting tomorrow if noone knows offhand. Thanks.
Sorry for second edit but just wanted to point out if armoried that i always have elemental shaman is why the 131 hit.

That's some damn nice stats.

Just use Lhivera's Calculator and compare piece by piece with some simple math. That's what I've always done and it works fine for me. You might also use Maxdps.com, though everyone always tells me that it's crap, but don't ever tell me why they feel that way.

I believe that after 1100-1150 fire damage (unbuffed) that haste = 1.05dmg or something of that sort. It will be a bigger increase for you to stack some haste as long as you don't go down too much in damage. That and assuming you are not running oom in a fight.

oh and gratS!

I made sure to open my character window to show you I also have my own to wear.

What you don't know is that the open ticket you see in that shot is for said token to be given to the correct person as our GM/ML last night screwed the pooch and gave me the wrong one by mistake.

Regardless, my rerolled warlock got his T6 shoulders before you did Smiley: laugh

You may now commence with the worship due to how totally awesome I am. Smiley: grin

I'd have em by now if not for a week off we took in which my raid leader broke his hand. Give it a couple weeks and we'll be back up to speed.

Ack, what I meant to type was my warlock got T6 MAGE shoulders before you, cause that's funny. The way it's typed above it sounds prickish, sorry if it came across that way.

We have a backup raid leader. No one listens to him, though. Smiley: frown

And I knew what you meant, Filter. No worries.

One frost mage works wonders on Illidan especially when learning, improved blizzard easily takes care of all adds and if you get targeted by shadowdemons your hunters should have a trap ready. Hopefully soon i can just go fire and rely on hunters traps so i can stop the 3 respec a week=(. I have been speccing 14/44/3 for council and sharaz(the maxed arcane hit for council, and you wouldnt believe what the mana back from 4 points in magic absorbion does for you on sharaz) and dropping dragon breath blast wave and pyroblast for those fights. Probably overdoing it but its fun to always stay full mana on sharaz and top meters almost every week because of the mana regen.

I think the main issue with maxdps is that it doesn't take into account fight length at all, so it tends to go for haste as the best stat to get (to the point of suggesting all haste items for my balance druid that is currently at 600 +dmg).

Also I find it hard to balance upgrades, if you just go for the 'best' upgrade for each slot from maxdps then you'd probably end up with a set severely lacking in stamina and spell hit.

It's also not very smart sometimes. For example if you are say 17 points below the hit cap it would suggest something like Hood of Hexing with 3x Great Dawnstone. So your current helm would need 38 hit rating for that to be a logical upgrade (to not go over the cap).

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good website and I really like the option to select upgrades from available instances, plus the handy item links so you can find out exactly where things drop from. But it's not a site you can just follow blindly and I find it less useful for planning entire gear overhauls (as you need to balance various stats in the process).

I've recently begun using magegraf but I don't know how it compares in reliability to other spreadsheets.

Actually on topic, grats and I have no advice unfortunately. I tend to start the fight off with R1 frostbolt to stack WC if I think I'm going to have threat issues and then just stop casting or switch to AM if my threat is getting too high and it's too early to consider invisibility. Obviously though I'm at a stage in content where I can lower my dps for a portion of the fight without it leading to failure.

I've never been one to consider that anyone should follow anything blindly, though there are a few people I've met who would really benefit from it(lulz pendant of the violet eye on a kara geared frost mage). So I can see what you're saying, though it's just another website with a caveat, which I feel all websites/gear calculators should come with.

I'd noticed that myself, but I've always assumed that folks were smart enough to rework that for themselves. Probably not something I should assume, but I'm an optimist.

i started using Rawr and love it. windows only, though.

Rawr is a great application, I've used it a bit lately and it gives a good deal of information and is quite helpful.

oh and magegraf is good too, it's from Vontre, one of the main mage TCers over at the elitist jerks forum.
