Beating a Horse with a Stick (Resto)Follow

#1 Jun 05 2008 at 7:46 AM Rating: Good
All right, if there's a thread about this throw me over there. I know what to look for in gear, it's the matter of deciding what to get first. I'm very indecisive. Anywho...

I'm looking at getting some badge stuff on my shammy, but not sure what to save up for first.

Here's a list of things I'm looking at at the moment:

Neck: Necklace of Eternal Hope (25 BoJ)
Back: Kharmaa's Shroud of Hope (60 BoJ)
Chest: Wave of Life Chestguard (100 BoJ)
Waist: Clutch of the Soothing Breeze (75 BoJ)
MH: Gavel of Naaru Blessings (150 BoJ)
Legs: Runed Scales of Antiquity (100 BoJ)
Trinket: Essence of the Martyr (41 BoJ)
Totem: Totem of Living Water (20 BoJ) - If there is a better healing totem, please let me know. I do already have Totem of the Plains.

Feel free to poke me with a stick for beating a dead horse regarding gear... =) Thanks in advance for advice

Your Armory isn't loading for me right now, but I will say this: DO NOT GET THE BADGE TOTEM...if you do not get the totem from Maiden in Kara by the time you get all of the other badge gear, then think about the badge totem.

I'll try to look at your armory later to suggest more, but basically, replace your worst gear first.

Edit: After looking at your armory, the biggest healing upgrade would be the mace (+240 healing), but you also need to replace your green pants and belt. The badge pants and belt will boost your mp5, health, and mana.

Get the mace first, then the belt, then the pants, then chest, then trinket, back, neck, and last totem (hopefully you will get the maiden one though as it is far superior).

Okay cool thanks Ailitardif! Yeah, I had gotten the belt and bracers mainly for the +healing, since I haven't been able to find decent stuff (per quests, etc).

Unfortunately, I missed maiden on Tuesday, so maybe next week for the totem. The Belt of Gale Force also dropped on Tuesday when I didn't run, and that went to the pally healer. I was sad.

Anyway, thanks again. That gives me an idea on what would be more important to save up for. I think after saving 150 badges for the mace, the others will seem like cake lol.

BTW, is there any other mace better than that one, or is that the best in game so far for healers? I tried looking up some, but been having issues with searching.

Whenever I look at badge gear I take in to consideration upgrades I may get in the near future and which pieces of badge gear are likely not to get upgraded until T6. I the case of the gear you linked, an example would be the belt. This is one of the first pieces I grabbed as it won't be replaced until Sunwell. On the other hand you have something like the cape you linked. While good, there are two capes that drop in Kara that are just as good if not better. The mace doesn't get replaced until you kill Vashj, Illidan or one from Sunwell so it's another that is a great upgrade if you're not going to be seeing that content soon.

I use this thread when evaluating gear:

Skyhoof does a great job keeping it up to date. You can change the weight he gives to each stat if you want and recalculate, but I just use it as-is to get an idea of what gear I should be looking out for in raids and what gear I can get with badges.

Thanks for the link Khalane! I did see the part 2 one, but didn't know about the part 3 one. I also noticed that there's a spreadsheet on there as well (sort of like the rogue one), which would be nice to use.

And you're right about the whole take into consideration what you'll get in the future. I don't think I'll be in Sunwell soon, so along with Ailitardif said, (with what you said as well), I'll get the mace first, and then work for that belt.

Thanks again for the link! It'll really help out. Bookmarked and rate up to both of you for the help. =)

I checked and it looks like there are only three better maces...two in sunwell, one from Illidan. The Lady Vashj one is very close to the badge one...less healing, but more mp5.

My first badge gear was the belt and it was a huge upgrade (i still had a blue). My next will be the pants, unless I get them from chess soon.

Good luck with the totem...i've never seen it drop, but am still hopeful

Yeah hopefully. We're supposed to do Chess, Illhoof, and maybe shade tonight. So who knows, maybe the shield will drop in chess and it'll replace my Crystal Pulse one. One can hope =P

Another item you didn't mention was the ring from the new Sunwell badge vendor (no idea what it's called). That is, if I remember, the single best healing ring available for us until heal/MP5/haste rings start dropping in BT.

Yeah I hadn't thought too much on the rings and trinkets at the moment, since my gear sucks lol.

Is it the Anveena's Touch, or Fused Nethergon band? I was looking at the Ring of Convalescence at Honor Hold, as a temp replacement until I get badges, but I need to get rep first with them (especially for the head glyph)

It's Anveena's Touch. The other is the dps caster ring. I actually used 2 pvp rings for a long time as they were much better than any of the blue quest rewards/drops. I don't think I replaced them until I got the ring from Prince and the one from turning in Mag's head.

Those are the rings I'm using now, and likely will be for quite some time since my guild completely fell apart and is trying (but failing) to rebuild at the moment. Anveena's Touch, though, is far superior to both of them for PvE, so if you need a ring, I highly recommend you grab it.

Well I did get Mender's Heart-Ring last night, so that was one upgrade compared to the rings I have (Heirloom Signet of Convalescence and my friendly Violet Signet). I've just got to find groups for instances. You'd think it'd be easy for a healer, but I've been trying to get my head glyph for the longest time but no one wants to run a heroic hellfire instance.

Anyway, thanks for all of the advice. I really appreciate it. I've got 18 badges saved so far, toward the mace... only 132 more to go *sigh*

Edit: I just added the other ring, just because. I wasn't sure if for some reason Gaudion was talking about that one so I figured I'd link it anyway =P

Here is my list and reasons. . .

(Chest) Wave of Life- this will remain on you for almost forever.
(Legs) Ruined Scales of Antiquity -same as chest, you will need T6 or better.
(Waist) Get the Isle belt last with your badges.
(Shield) Chess, Mags or ZA...keep the blue til then.

These depend on drops, rate you collect badges or guild progression in Kara +

(Neck) Either wait for Banes or work the Isle rep for it's equal.
(Back) Opera or Prince, the Shatt vendor is ok but your badges are needed elsewhere first.
(Waist) Moroes first, once geared out completely then the Isle belt, only +20 heal and a few stats better then the Moroes one.
(MH) Maiden, then wait for a better replacement from ZA, SSC or BT. The badge one lacks mp5.
(Trinket) Several options most depending on drops via attendance and rep, 1st prority is your Alchemy trinkets asap. Lower City, Opera and Prince can be done as you do it.
(Totem) Wait on Maidens, do not waste the badges.

While you geared for +heal you seriously lack mp5. A T6 Shaman will have around 2100-2300 healing and 150-200 mp5 unbuffed (depending on Shadow Priest and situation). I am healing Kara, Mags, Gruul and ZA with 1900+ healing and 147 mp5 unbuffed with ease. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Hydraxis&n=Bly
The World of Warcraft Armory

We all have our reasons and styles which depend on guilds, strats and situations, but I pass this info to you based on gold spent and 6 months farming Kara with short stints of Gruul, Mag and ZA in between. I changed my legs out 5 times which include gems and enchants before getting the Antiquity, all was minor upgrades each time except for the gold I wasted.

If you are a 3rd healer working with experianced and geared healers I suggest waiting for your drops.

Thanks a lot Canpick. Yeah, not wasting any gold is always a good thing.

Right now, I am the third healer (even though they've been having me MT heal), in the Kara group. I haven't been doing too bad keeping up with the other two (so I'm proud of myself), especially since it's such a big changed for me compared to my rogue.
