How much utility/dps do Moonkins sacrifice for points in Imp Faerie Fire? Our raid group recently acquired a Balance druid with 0 points in it, and never having played a druid past level 10, I'm unsure as to the viability of a spec containing it. Any thoughts or observations appreciated Smiley: smile

They don't really sacrifice utility or DPS, they sacrifice aggro reduction.

You can get all the talents you want and imp FF and the only thing you won't have is aggro reduction, as in this build:

Should be able to work around that, though :-)

melee classes and hunters should, as a rule, be hit capped during raids of their own accord (tanks excepted). for raid bosses, this is around 9% to hit. combat rogues often stack more hit than this, but generally anything past about 10-12% +hit is considered overkill for dual wielding DPS wars and rogues. hunters, 2h wars and ret pallies should be at the hit cap with their own gear without even really trying, while enhancement shaman get a lot of +hit from talents. added to what they get from gear, they should be pushing 12-13% without too much trouble.

so, in other words, with the exception of combat rogues and some of the tanks, you wont see much of a gain with imp faerie fire. in a dps build, its makes much more sense to stick those points elsewhere, as they wont benefit hunters, 2h wars or ret pallies, are of marginal gain for fury wars and enh shammies, and are only really useful for combat rogues (who have plenty of hit without really trying).

as for the talent point sacrifice, youre basically giving up max intensity and 2/5 points in subtlety, assuming you went with a balance/resto raid build. thats a lot of -threat and regen out the window.

Combat Rogues do most of their damage from white hits, shamans and fury warriors use more specials. Also, pets aren't affected by the owner's hit rating, so BM hunters and Demo locks also benefir from Imp FF. If your boomkin is threat-capped more often than not, dropping 12% of their threat reduction would be a "Bad Thing". If your tank is staying reasonably ahead of your boomkin, there's no reason to not have Imp FF.

Edit: To Quor, I thought raiding Balance had at least 3 pts in Subtlety, so you drop 3 pts from that (12% threat) and keep your points in Intensity.

it might. its been awhile since i looked at a raiding balance build, so i just threw one up on wowhead to see what i got. i ended 46/0/15 i think, with 3 in intensity and 2 in subtlety. its probably not a perfect balance build, but its what id do, so i just went with that.

Thanks for the replies. I think he needs his threat reduction, so I'll leave him be :)
