I posted this in the Priest Forums. Yeah... it's a priest thread. AND YET, many of you play more than just your pally (do the "Home Alone" thing). You guys have always been so good in helping me with my Tankadin and I (to date) still find it to be my best toon. NOW, if you play/played a priest......

Oh my.

The faq was less than encouraging, and really nothing that I haven't learned or figured out in playing my priest. Now don't get me wrong, if you have logged no time on a priest it's great! Kinda like Window's for Dummies.
I lvled Shadow up to 62. Wanted to skip Zanger (which I'm now farming for Motes of Life, damn Mooncloth), and healed 5 mans from 62 to 66. Yep no quests. The only thing I would have done different is build a Shadow Gear set as I build up my Holy Gear. Hind site is alwasy 20/20.

So my wonder as I look over the talent trees and see where the fun is in Discipline. It was a nice add to for healing. I did the DS and Imp DS with my healing tree and get/understand that going deeper into Holy would be cool with Circle of Healing for those pesky 10+man raids where you get stuck with 4 other fist fighting, teeth punching toons that you have to keep alive. And yet I'm not getting it. Discipline tree that is. I love my fellow trash bashing toons and being a healer is actually really fun. I enjoyed Shadow and have gone back to it to farm, though I'm already missing Holy. But in the spirit of getting to know a toon fully WHERE IS THE FUN IN DISCIPLINE?

I love the Reflective Sheild, and with the mods in 2.3? 2.4? where your +spell damage is added (if I remember correctly) it might be fun. Hell I even have my mace skill up there. But the tree seems to be lacking something as I just don't see my Alien Clothie walking up with a shield, slap on a SW:Pain and start slapping trash with a mace. Is there a deep Dis build? If so, where is the stragity? The faq shows a build as deep as 31. Eh. It's really not that effective. How does one make a deep Dis build work? What is the key? Do we really have to wait for Nov and 10 more pts to make a Dis/Shadow build effective? Or do I need the Discipline for Dummies book? And if I do would someone get me the link to it?

Also, I'm looking at teaming up with my bro (neRogue) in 2v2. I heard Dis is great for pvp. Anyone knowlageabel on that?

Thanks for any intelligent responces.

Well i'm just gonna say this not from experience, but from raiding with a pair of darned good priests all the way into hyjal. Firstly, in terms of pve content, you will find that it's usually not necessary to go with a deep holy build. this kind of build is good for 5 mans and early raid content, but past T4 it's usually better to go for a hybrid disc/holy build, giving up circle of healing. Idea being that a shammy is best suited keeping the melee group alive, especially what with windfury totem benefits.

Disc in essence is the "PvP healer" spec for priests. Disc/Shadow i do believe is the PvP dpser spec. deep holy doesn't see much light in pvp, as the survivability that comes with the disc tree simply isn't there, along with disc's rather formidable offensive capabilities. Disc priests in arenas are often difficult to kill, and PI as well as pain supp. are really useful short term buffs for your teammates. Mana burn is probably one of the worst things to face if you're a healer or mana based DPSer, leaving a disc priest alone too long ensures he gets ample time to burn all your mana and leave you helpless. Disc priests and druids are probably the best pvp healers, as they combine their strong survivability together with good healing and decent offensive support. That kind of pvp disc build you would be looking at would be this.

For the Pve disc build i'm afraid i can't help you there, what i know about pve disc is merely from talking to my guild's priests, whereas what i know about pvp disc priests come from experience against them and a rather lot of reading. Hope this helped.
