Playing a PriestFollow

Oh my.

The faq was less than encouraging, and really nothing that I haven't learned or figured out in playing my priest. Now don't get me wrong, if you have logged no time on a priest it's great! Kinda like Window's for Dummies.
I lvled Shadow up to 62. Wanted to skip Zanger (which I'm now farming for Motes of Life, damn Mooncloth), and healed 5 mans from 62 to 66. Yep no quests. The only thing I would have done different is build a Shadow Gear set as I build up my Holy Gear. Hind site is alwasy 20/20.

So my wonder as I look over the talent trees and see where the fun is in Discipline. It was a nice add to for healing. I did the DS and Imp DS with my healing tree and get/understand that going deeper into Holy would be cool with Circle of Healing for those pesky 10+man raids where you get stuck with 4 other fist fighting, teeth punching toons that you have to keep alive. And yet I'm not getting it. Discipline tree that is. I love my fellow trash bashing toons and being a healer is actually really fun. I enjoyed Shadow and have gone back to it to farm, though I'm already missing Holy. But in the spirit of getting to know a toon fully WHERE IS THE FUN IN DISCIPLINE?

I love the Reflective Sheild, and with the mods in 2.3? 2.4? where your +spell damage is added (if I remember correctly) it might be fun. Hell I even have my mace skill up there. But the tree seems to be lacking something as I just don't see my Alien Clothie walking up with a shield, slap on a SW:Pain and start slapping trash with a mace. Is there a deep Dis build? If so, where is the stragity? The faq shows a build as deep as 31. Eh. It's really not that effective. How does one make a deep Dis build work? What is the key? Do we really have to wait for Nov and 10 more pts to make a Dis/Shadow build effective? Or do I need the Discipline for Dummies book? And if I do would someone get me the link to it?

Also, I'm looking at teaming up with my bro (neRogue) in 2v2. I heard Dis is great for pvp. Anyone knowlageabel on that?

Thanks for any intelligent responces.

The Disc tree is the red-headed step child of the priest class for the most part. You're right in that it doesn't seem to have a direction.

However, it's great for pvp, or for a little fun. I'm a little confused about your comments regarding reflective shield ... you're not a tank. It's there to help out while soloing and to **** of rogues/warriors/feral druids and the like in pvp. Basically adds a little damage to your PW:Shield to help things die faster. Other casters love Power Infusion in raids, but again it's not a part of a usual raid spec. Pain suppression is another interesting talent. Throw it on yourself in pvp or an ******* moment while soloing to reduce the damage you take, or on a squishy in that 5 man dungeon who pulled aggro to keep them from dying.

I've never played deep disc myself, and actually only know one person who has (outside of pvp). They tried it for fun, but changed spec not long after because it just doesn't give the healing output you need for raids. At this time, Disc talents are used to compliment either a shadow or holy spec. It doesn't really shine on it's own in a raid setting unfortunately.

I have been Disc from lvl 60-70 and I can honestly say it's fun. I found solo-ing as disc much easier than as holy, partially because of the reflective shield and the extra spelldamage. Besides the solo-ing, I could heal instances pretty well. So all in all, it was a nice compromise for me while levelling.

When you hit 70 though, I do not think Disc is very viable except for pvp-ing. It just lacks the healing power you need in raiding and heroics of a deep holy build.

What would be a good Dis/Shadow build?
Got a link off hand? I do like the Shadow tree and have gone back to it for my farming, but would be intrested in seeing a Dis/shadow build.

Thanks for you time!!

*edit Khalane, I just hit up your armory. Thanks for the build.
