Currently I have a 70 warrior and a 36 hunter and was thinking of rolling a mage for it's cc and awesome dps. I've been reading all the posts and one thing I haven't seen talked about is the difference between amplify magic and dampen magic and when is it you use either of these abilities. It's a little confusing to me.

Use amplify magic on yourself (or on another character) when you have a healer present -- when there will be little/no spell damage taken against your party.

Dampen magic can be good on yourself if you are soloing and especially if you are going against casters. If you have a healer with you it decreases the potency of their heals so not a good idea.

dampen magic can also be helpful, at times, against bosses with more magic v melee. this is more then debatable in worth, but from time to time i have used it with great success. just make sure to INFORM your healer what you are doing. if they do not want it, then do not do it as it WILL make their job harder.
