Dusting off my pre-TBC rogue, some questions...Follow

Hey there all you sneaky little devils!

I played a rogue almost exclusively before TBC, but have dabbled in a few other classes since then and hardly play my rogue these days. After (finally) getting my main spriest's epic flyer, I've decided to dust off my rogue for PvP purposes. As I'm sure you guys can understand, rogues practically foam at the mouth when they see my squishy shadowy blueberry in a BG, and I think it's high time for me to experience the other side of the stick (specifically: the end that's swinging, not receiving).

The downside is that while my spriest has full vindicator's and a good amount of S1 stuff, my rogue is a relatively harmless little scrub due to lack of play at 70. I'm sucking it up and starting the looong grind up to decent gear in the BGs, and my question is this:

What is the optimal ShS oriented spec for doing pretty much exclusively BGs?

I've done my homework but mostly find spec discussions around high end arena... something that I won't be experiencing for a long time. Issues like imp Expose Armor and Vile poisons confuse my feeble caster mind. For reference, I just started playing with this toon again last night and took a spec I found online for convenience... here's my armory:

http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Emerald+Dream&n=Cheeky

I know it's hideous, and I know that the weapons are nothing short of an embarrassment. I've ALWAYS used daggers and this spec is brand new for my 2+ year old rogue. My plan is to purchase the 2min trinket first, followed by the S1 swords, followed by Vin stuff, followed by hopefully merc gear (I know it would probably be ultimately better to bank all my points for S4, but who knows when that will be and I want my shiny things NOW... it's only a game, after all).

Any tips, advice, comments, or showerings of love and affection would be appreciated.

Oh, and one more question that hopefully someone can clear up... if I'm Hemo specced, do I have any need for SS? Last night I put it in one of the far corners of my bindings because I couldn't think of a situation where I would choose it over Hemo. But admittedly, I'm a total noobcake and am perfectly willing to admit that I could be totally wrong about that.

Thanks in advance <3

There really isn't a "BG build" at 70 since everyone has resilience in BGs.

That said:

That build is awful.

1) Imp Gouge is terrible for 3 points. Rogues very rarely get a restealth anymore, making Imp Gouge incredibly impractical when you can take talents like Enveloping Shadows, Vile Poisons, or Imp EA instead.

2) Imp Evis is not as useful as Murder/Imp EA. Evis is a rarely-used finisher because my Evis does the exact same damage it did at 60, only now everyone has 10-13k HP.

3) Full Lethality is a waste.

4) Master of Sub is the worst talent in the late Sub tree. Enveloping Shadows is better than it, and that's the second worst talent in late Sub.

Basically, crits are dead as a source of huge burst. Now rogues use Imp EA to burst on clothies and mail wearers that don't have a shield, and we really can't burst on resilience-wearing plate.

Direct your attention to my PvP FAQ for more info on finisher use. Basically, Evis should be last on your list of finishers to use unless you're definitely going to finish someone off.

Vile Poisons, as discussed in my FAQ, is taken for dispel resists on poisons. Not incredibly useful in BGs, but useful for when you come up against a druid, paladin, or shaman. Imp EA, like I said, is used to reduce casters down to 0 armor, granting more damage.

I'm not too much of a PVP Guru as Theo, but I do want to say that you may want to get some enchants done as well, since it looks as though you have none.

Don't put off Arena for too long. Not only do you want to be able to bank as many points as possible for S4 (and spend some if you reach the 5k cap before then), but you need to get practice.

I have only been running Arenas for a few weeks now, but I already feel a difference in my reactions and play style. When I started I really felt overwhelmed and felt like everything was happening at 2x speed. Now things have slowed down and I find myself having to react less and less (I am more proactive).

Just find some friends and run 5s. You all will suck at first, but the only way to learn is to do.

Cool, thanks for the replies everyone.

@ Theo:

That all totally makes sense. I read your guide (previously and now again) and found it very helpful, thanks for putting that together. I'm gonna work on the spec and try something a little more sensible tonight.

@ PsiChi

You're right. I'm not too experienced in arena (mostly because of my choice of main) and quickly forget that you still get points for losing. And that, either way, experience is more valuable than anything else.
