Item sets for fresh 70 Elemental ShamanFollow

So I just hit 70 as an Elemental Shaman and I have a smattering of greens and blues armor (mostly the normal Outland drops) with one piece of the Desolation Greaves from Setthik Halls.

My question is should I pursue the Desolation sets (no idea how I'll get invited to Heroics with my greens) or just pay the relatively small price for the Seer's sets and then work on my Uber-gear in BG's? I'd have to drop the Desolation Greaves to get my set bonus in Seer's Mail Battlegear. If I'm going in the wrong direction what would be the best gear as an early 70?

After that it would seem that the Skyshatter Regalia gear would be the best but I'm not sure... Anyone that has worked their way through these dilemmas and has opinions and/or answers your response is appreciated.

Skyshatter is T6 gear, so unless you're automatically going to jump to doing Sunwell, etc. you'll have to build up to it.

I'd suggest, if you're into PVP, that you can just get the Seer set and then do the BGs to get honor gear. Otherwise, just continue to run instances and stuff. I've gotten quite a bit of elemental gear running some stuff and continuing with questing. It really comes down to what you prefer.

Once you start running Kara, you'll start getting some of your T4 pieces (Cyclone stuff - gloves and head).

Thanks Noc,

Any thoughts on trying to get the Desolation Set instead instead of the Seers Set? I would still have the issue of trying to Group for Heroics with a bunch of Green gear...

My guess is that I'm off to Thrallmar to become honored and see what happens wearing my Seers set.

Honestly, imo, the desolation set seems more aimed toward Enhanced shamans than elemental (if looking at each of our trees), because it deals more with melee damage (the +hit, AP, etc).

If you're looking for an elemental set, I'd say your best bet would be going after the seer's gear with the spell hit, etc. Something like the Grand Marshal's Thunderfist or Gladiator's Thunderfist set is what you're looking for. You could possibly even save up for that, if you're into BGs.

Only grab the Seer's set if you intend to use it for PvP. It's crap for PvE content, so if that's what you plan to focus on, don't bother with it. You can build a much better item set from unrelated blues purchased from honor vendors around Outland, from quest rewards, and from instance drops. PvP gear doesn't start to get PvE-acceptable until Gladiator gear, and even then until you get to S2 or S3 you can frequently find PvE blues that are just as good or in most cases better.

Vindicator stuff is great, acouple of the rep vendors in outlands have some nice gear for us I would say go check out shatar and Shattered Sun Offensive.

There are some nice shoulders out of H SP aswell as a nice trinket, great pants out of H UB. There is also plenty of badge gear that is not too hard to get if you can find a Kara group to run with each week and a heroic or two a day (trinkets shields capes armor lots of goodies here)

good luck

Here is a good site for your perusal:
http://wow-loot.com/shaman.htm
Hit the heroic tab for the dungeons and you'll see most of your entry level Elemental epics are in the heroics.
There is also a section on the bottom of the wow-loot page that allows you to select your spec and it recommend some beginner level 70 gear options.
I would recommend hitting H SP , UB, and Ramps and working your SSO rep hard. Those early Heroics are really pretty easy and are being farmed by well geared players for Badges.
Last night we were looking for any DPS to come with us - had a geared Pally tank + my healing = no CC needed. We did Ramps, SP, and Bot on heroic with no CC.

My playtime basically begins with me getting the daily heroic and putting myself into LFG for that and then hitting the BGs until I get an invite. The S1 (and soon S2) that can be honor bought is good stuff. So you're killing 2 birds with one stone and maximizing your playtime.

Also take a look at the crafted gear available.

Cheers!

The above link is the latest (updated) equipment list for Ele Shamans. Look for items u can aim for and work your way up.
Do note, a lot of the weighting in that thread is biased towards spell haste. Unfortunately, spell haste IMO, is an "all or nothing" attribute. I think it's not wise to go spell haste unless u have T6 gear and always team with spriests. Aiming for pieces with Crit and SP 1st should be a better option.

I would recommend buying the entry level PVP set (blues items from rep vendors). Then grind PVP. (Both BG and Arena). There is reason why people call them welfare epics =)

Earn honor points to buy the Vindicator pieces (Bracer, Boots, Belt and Neck).
The Sunwell Neck is also quite decent (Sunwell rep is easy to get,.. this is an option if you dont have enough honor points).

Do try your best to do Arena. Save up points and get all the S3 items (suggest go for head 1st for meta gem, if you cant get the ratings, S2 is also good, failing which some S1 using honors points also works if you have honor points to spare).

Meanwhile, once your gear is good enough, grind the appropriate instance/Kara to farm for the right tirnklets (illhoof capacitor from Kara) and Totem (suggest the one from Mechanar Cache).

For Ele shamans, most of the PVP gear works for PVE and is better than even T4 gear. Be prepared to use a lot of potions for long fights though.

Once u get these, your should reach about 900 to 1k DPS, and earn yourself a place in ZA/T5/T6 raids.

I went ahead and "bought" the Gladiator Shoulders and Gloves last night to get the +35 resistance and will grind BG's to get the set for my 50% chance of no interruptions for my my LB. Mext purchase will be the chest to replace an outland green, then the helm and finally the legs to replace my desolation greaves. The funny thing is that I keep hearing the Gladiator set is for enhancement yet the final set reward is for LB which seems to be the most effective tool of an elememental shaman... Once I get the set I'll try some heroics for a belt, boots and cuffs.

If you plan on raiding, then you need to plan on doing heroics too. S1 Epics aren't that great for Elemental Shamans, but are enough to get you by while you work towards those tasty badge rewards.

My advice is to get a guild with a healthy population of 70s that is somewhat PvE focused, they will be more than happy to run heroics. Also, really learn your class and spec, my Elemental set only has 17% crit (27% on LB and CL) and 800 spell damage fully buffed (including totems), but I pull out 800+ DPS (I hit 950 in a heroic Ramps run before), that's only in greens, blues, and epics. The trick is to know your spec, only then will you be a truly great player.

Also, don't go for Desolation, that's Enhancement gear, what you're looking for is the Tidefury set.

BTW, with regards to PVP epics, if you can afford to wait, then hold on to your Honorpoints (75k limit) and Arena Points (I think 5k limit).

When S4 starts,
- S2 will be purchasable using Honorpoints
- There will be S4 pieces replacing the Vindicator stuff
- S3 will be cheaper
- Of coz you can go for S4 if u can hit the ratings (But I think it will be hard unless u're properly decked out in PVP gear already)

Meanwhile, heroics is good. My 1st badge purchase was the shield that cost me 33 badges. People always wonder why there are flames coming out of my back, kekekek.

Forget the badge shield, the Sunward Crest from SSO is much easier to get and is far more worth your time. Not only do you get a sweet shield and mace, but you also get an amazing necklace and alchemy recipe along with thousands of gold from doing the dailies.

This Thread was posted sometimes ago with someone asking for guidance as well for a newly 70 elemantal shaman. There are some link showing the gear that you can get before you are quite ready for raid. Do have a look and hopes it help. If it is not helping then just take it as a reference.

Elemental FTW :p

The Sunward Crest is a good idea. It's easy to get and cheap :) (Compared to getting 33 badges)

But it's not neccesarily better though, coz Sunward Crest give spell Hit and has no Int.
The other shield gives Crit and Int. (which important for Ele, both in terms of DPS and MP5 from talent)

Anyway, f I already have the Sunward Crest,... I wouldn't spend 33 badges to get the Mazthoril Honor Shield :)

I like the Crest it is a solid PvP shield if you don't feel like working to get a real one, and the hit is really nice.

I just picked up my chest piece of the Gladiators Thunderfist and socketed it with about 120g worth of gems. That give me 3 pieces and I will now start grinding the BG's to earn 14,500 honor for the helm to get the LB 50% no interruption chance... I'll then probably replace my desolate greaves and start working on my belt, boots and bracers in the instances.

But my question is what is "SSO"? I'm doing Sunwell Dailies now (easy gold) so at least I think I'm in the right area.

Also, my bonus damage is only 273 and my critical hit chance is only 13.69%. Does that seem exraordinarily low?

Thanks to all who have posted.

So I picked up my Thunderfist helm last night to give me the 4 piece set bonus of 50% chance no interruption to LB (in addition to +35 resilience) as well as upgrading other aspects of my stats ie. armor, intellect, reslilience, etc... Here is a link:

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Arthas&n=Dreadnasty

I have yet to socket my helm as I learn what metagem to use for it. One confusing thing is that the metagems offered on AH will say things like "requires 3 blues"... What does that mean?

Also, in case anyone is following this thread you will notice I only have 4/5 of the Thunderfist set and will probably focus my energy to the SSO sheild as the gold earned is easy and quick. I have the Desolation greaves that aren't that much worse than the Thunderfist leggings (wrong spec noted) and will work on updating my bracers, boots, etc... When I start upgrading from Thunderfist the greaves will be the 1st replacement.

One last thing about grinding BG honor; does anyone else have the Horde Trinket that allows you to break stuns? Is it worth the time it takes to get 17k of honor?

Save the 17k honor..... get the 40k honor epic version. It's worth every cent. And it's even a necessary item in a T5 raid (Rage WinterChill)
