With just Fel Armor, my stats are:
8343 health
7967 mana
945 +shadow damage (766 fire)
197 hit rating
19.65% crit

Is my T4 helm (with 2t4 bonus) an upgrade over my spellstrike hood (with set bonus)? Less hit, less crit, less spell damage, but adds a meta socket.

Hmm, url codes aren't working, so I can't link.

Net change: -[B], -[Y], +[M], +17 Stam, +24 Int, -5 Crit rating, -12 hit rating, -6 damage.

Basicly, how valuable is a meta socket for a warlock, and what meta would you reccomend? If it's relavent, would this change when/if I respec to 0/21/40?

yes it is. the T4 2set bonus has a highier proc chance (if i remember correctly) and highier damage bonus than spell strike. Also depending on spec, either the 3% crit bonus or spell haste meta ends up leading to a total dps increase.. primarily because of the meta socket

POST EDIT

read the rest of your post.

for afliction (i presume that's what you are now). the haste meta is worth roughly 35+dmg. same for the 3% crit meta if you switch to destruction. the T4 2set bonus is equal to a +25 damage bonus while spell strike is only +18 damage bonus. with these taken into account, T4 >>>> spell strike. same for the arguement of T4 or FSW once you take into account the set bonuses.

on an amusing little side-note... when it comes to the choice of using FSW.. if you're destruction then the mana-etched set actually equals the FSW for dps, and it's only slightly behind it if you go afliction due to the set bonuses

wait a second....

Ive had my T4 helm in the bank for about a month and always assumed that it was nowhere near as good as spellstrike even with the 2 piece bonus, if you are telling me that i can increase my DPS by slotting the crit meta in it then thats the first thing im off to do! I even have the badges for the badge legs too, which will seem even more worth it since im not giving up a set bonus for them.

Thanks for the information :)

EDIT: feet>legs

i was thinking of the crit ones, i should be able to re-cap hit by reslotting gems and maybe swapping glove enchant if needs be.

I would have taken the ones with hit but large amounts of itemisation wasted on spirit puts me off.

ahh, if you can re-cap then it's not an issue. the crit ones are good.

on a side note... spirit isn't as bad as you'd think if your raid has improved divine spirit.. granted it's not much of a bonus but it's still something :) lol.

Haha, i actually raid with a priest who has that and im a human, how would it work out? about 9 or 10 spirit is 1 spelldamage? probably still wouldnt be worth getting the other pants, especially since i'm not with that priest 24/7.

Oh on another side note it helps if you dont reslot all your gems to be perfectly on 202 hit and then realise you hadnt put a glyph of power on the T4 helm you have had for months, thereby putting you at 216 spell hit and needing to spend more gold to turn that 14 wasted hit into something useful.

Because thats what i did :(

also if you raid with a draenai in your group all the time (I do personnally, loads in our guild) then you actually don't need any more than like 190 hit rating to get to the cap :D

As long as you don't have trouble with hit rating, T4 might serve you better than Spellstrike, but it depends on your other gear and spec. Personally I think the Hood of Hexing is better than both, but if you can't get it don't worry about it.

Around 75% of the time i raid with a draenei elemental shaman in my group (and a boomkin ^^ ), However due to recent uncertainty in my guild i cant base my gear around him being a permanant feature. :(

I guess its all the more reason to get a trash set started that i can swap pieces in and out based on what i need. I'm thinking inspiring presence and totem of wrath would leave me only needing around 150 spell hit in total, ive got a few different epics scattered around a bag in my guildbank that might be more worth using in the right conditions.

ya, that's not regular enough. personnaly, well maybe 75% of the time I've got either a boomkin or Spriest in my group... but 100% of the time I, and all other dps groups, have a draenai in our groups, so we can all drop 1% hit :)
