Yeah, I noticed it right after I posted it...forgot about the class restriction (even though it will only show the one available to your class from the vendor).

cool didn't know there was an alliance version, but besides that what do you guys do as mages to fight against warlocks and priests that all they do is fear

Personally, 90% of time against locks I die, especially if they get the jump. I usually trinket out, then Will of the Forsaken (undead racial) out of the next one. After that, the diminishing returns makes them tolerable to negligible. Make sure you get a CS off when they are trying to cast deathcoil. If they have their puppy out just have all the buffs you can, even if they are garbage ones, it keeps the pup busy. Use Ice Block when there are lots of dots ticking away (or they get death coil off).

Priests, same as locks for the first part, trink -> WotF. Burst them down with insta casts, get a silence off at the right time (imp CS preferably) get a shatter combo and hope for some crits. Priests aren't nearly as rough as locks.

Also, I like to jump around like an idiot while next to the priest to ***** with their casting. All else fails, polymorph+blink and regroup and try again (with diminishing returns still in your favor).

Not the best advice, but thats how I usually deal with them in BGs atleast.

Deathcoil is an instant cast spell. You cannot counterspell it unless you count improved counterspell locking them down totally. If a lock has their felpuppy out, run to your friends or you will most likely die. Additionally, deathcoil is a horror effect, not a fear effect, so Diminishing returns doesn't affect it.

Been said many times before, a decent lock will beat a well geared mage most of the time.

Pretty much the only shot a mage has against a lock, and it's just an outside chance, is to be deathcoiled, be feared, get loaded up w DOTs, then iceblock. That will wipe the DOTs and the fear. Then right-click the iceblock buff to immediately return to combat and run up to him/her and start spamming instants. Counterspell the next fear. You will have a chance of winning, lessened if the lock has a felpuppy to spell lock you.

You don't wanna run up to a lock... and if you see them running up to you, it means 1 thing....

Instant Howl of Terror... you gonna get feared again, then dotted again, then dead again. You need to stay at range with a lock. The SL/SL ones are a real pain because they have a fel hunter that gives them +70 spell resistance and that will eat your sheep on them and silence you.

Hmm, for some reason I thought it was a timed cast-good to know. I assumed that it was a fear effect, never actually looked at the debuff to see which it was. Probably adding to the many reasons I die to locks so often.

From what I understand, most PvP locks are SL/SL w/out instant Howl of Terror. (I agree that if they run towards YOU they've probably got it, so best to hang back.) And as a fire mage I want to run up to them so I can DB/BW/AE spam, hopefully hitting them and their pet, before their DOTs kill me. I can pump out more instant DPS than they can if I'm close. Then maybe I'll have time to eat before I die from those corruption ticks.

I find that if you stand back and try to burn a lock with fireballs or scorches, it ends badly. May be very different for frosties.

Also, have dampen magic and fire ward up to eat some of the damage from their DOTs. Good luck. You'll need it.

trinkets have been linked, but you also get IceBlock and that will NOT ONLY stop the fear, but will get rid of MOST of the locks DoTs. a great thing. sadly it is on a 3min timer, thus the 3min mage.

i really dont find locks that hard, the only time i have a problem with a lock is if they have that ******* felhunter out that silences you, and occasionally a demonology lock since they seem to have an endless amount of life, for me a typical fight would go like this (im fire btw) if i can get a fireball off this would be the best start, i dont even waste time sheeping for the simple fact you probly have a pet on you already and/or they will trink out of it and try to get fear off before you can resheep, and wasting your counterspell in the beginning of the fight if you dont have to isnt the best start.. i personally try to hit them with a fireball/fireblast and run up on them (decurse everytime they put agony on you, if they wanna waste time putting it on you reptetively its only hurting them in the long run) if for some reason they havent started casting fear yet try to get a few scorches and a blast wave off on them, i save dragons breath if i can to interrupt their first fear, scorch again, nova, this should have them AND the pet frozen in place, of course try to get a few ice lances off, at this point its deathcoil, trink out, they will follow deathcoil up with fear, counterspell it, hit them with another fireblast/scorch, you should have drag breath back up now, so either finish em with AE, scorches, or dragons breath, this should be the end or close to the end of the fight, cake.. shouldnt even have to use ice block, if somehow they get a fear off on you and u start collecting dots ice block immediatly, you can choose to stay in ice block to collect your CD's i usually come right out of it to get the jump back on them, u have to be relentless against a lock

ps- dont EVER waste your counterspell on a dps cast, hopefully theyll be dumb enough to use a firespell on you, awsome, fire ward, they just wasted a spell.. i have improved fireward, occasionally itl reflect back to them, even better, also has chance to stun :)

Ice Block:You become encased in a block of ice,PROTECTING you from pyhsical attacks and SPELLS for 10 sec,but during that time you cannot attack, move,or cast spells. Also causes HYPOTHERMIA,preventing you from recasting Ice Block for 30 sec.

lol... there is not DoT I'm aware of that stays. Agreed as above, iHoT (Instant Howl of Terror) is a deep affliction talent, not found on SL/SL locks, but those have Soul Link showing (+70 magic resistances), so you can easilly see if you're fighting a demo-specced lock.

no clue what its called im not a lock and have not played one past 20s, i believe i have stated that a few times already. it has either a face or a weird looking shield looking icon. maybe next time im in IB and i have a lock on my tail ill get a SS of it for you.
#21 Jun 03 2008 at 9:31 PM Rating: Good
Might that be HYPOTHERMIA which makes you immune to another IB for 30 secs?
Because there are no possible debuffs that might left from your enemies...

Sounds like demon armor... lol. That is on the lock, so that cannot be what you're talking about.

HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHA, yes please send us a SS of it so you can continue arguing a point only you are right about. If 5 people disagree with you you MIGHT be wrong. And CAPS, don't make it TRUE!

Edit: does the DoT always seem to last for 30 sec whenever you use IB?
