So ferocious bite drains your energy bar. But does the amount of energy left in the bar (before the FB) affect the damage output?
FB costs 35 energy. Anything more than 35 energy left in the bar marginally increases your damage. If under the effect of clearcasting, the clearcast covers the 35 energy and the whole bar is still consumed for a minor damage increase (I think it is something like 4 damage per point of energy).
So it does more damage but isn't worth waiting for your energy bar to fill before you FB?
The only time you should do that is if you are trying for a record crit :) If you want to maximise your DPS, don't wait (and usually don't use FB unless the mob is almost dead).
For even higher crits, build up 5 pts, let your energy tick up then wait for an Omen of Clarity proc, hit your trinkets then FB.

3.5k Ferocious Bite with 2500 attack power.
My record so far. And yes, it was on a player. A Mage. Poor girl first got a 3.5k Ravage, then two 1.2k Mangles and finally the 3.5k Ferocious Bite.
