Garrote is a waste of energy when soloing.

Yes, you heard me. Garrote is a piece of **** ability when compared to CS when you're soloing.

So stop making posts about how you're leet and use Garrote for soloing.

The only thing Garrote is good for is bosses, and in some cases in PvP.

If this is news to you, you're probably only using 2 brain cells when you play WoW.

Uh, what prompted this?

And how can anybody think a DoT that last longer then the mob stays alive is a good opener for soloing...

Because I just saw like 4 posts in a thread that all talked about opening with Garrote in solo.

Especially those SSO mobs. They die in like 6 seconds to my green geared Rogue, lolz.

there are *still* warriors that think DW MS is somehow viable in any way, shape or form. sure, its viable in the sense that its a very viable spec to mock someone for having, but in terms of, you know, actual real world application youre almost better off unspecced.

yet, despite much evidence showing why DW MS just doesnt work, warriors insist on speccing it, and then posting their earth-shattering revelations for all to see and cringe at. its like theres this very dedicated cadre of warriors who have hard-ons for dual wielding, but cant stand not having -50% healing on their target, and no amount of logic is going to teach them otherwise by golly!

i only garrote when i solo in 2 condititions, and both have to apply

1: stun immune
2: the fight will last at minimum 19 seconds

anything else is pointless, especially since soloing loves not getting hit more then it loves ****** DOT damage

Hehe i only use garrote if my lvling buddy gets to the mob first and uses CS.

I don't even bother to stealth 90% of the time. I mean, I'm taking most mobs down in about 6-7 seconds, why stealth and waste time with a slower movement speed?

Theo, quick question as your guides have been very useful-- I know that this thread is primarily geared towards soloing, but the bosses comment had me wondering about openers with pulls in instances. Some tanks (before the pull) have requested that I not use CS as it will interfere with rage build-up. Would Garrote be appropriate there, or is it better to go in with SS right away and forget about a stealth opener (with a combat swords spec)? Or are the tanks wrong?

I know that if my group is worried about trash mob pulls we have bigger problems than choice of openers, but I end up in a lot of pugs and am also curious from a theory standpoint...

It depends on the situation. I open with garrote if we are 3 or 4 manning ramps or mech or something easy, where we have less dps and the mob will be alive longer. If you're in a full group, and mobs are going down in a matter of a few seconds, just start with SS. You're correct in the rage buildup - tanks need to get hit to be effective.
