I've sat here with an open reply window for 5 minutes and cannot come up with the words that justify my feelings towards your destruction of written communication. I don't think you could have generalized anything more completely than "i mean there pretty fast, and some have nice stats on them"

Well it's quite simple. The "cool things" might look cool but they don't do as much damage as the uncool things you can do with swords.

If you want to look cool, go put a pretty blue dress on and chuck fireballs around. If you want to push out as much damage as possible, get yourself a couple of swords (or fist weapons).

Oh and for the love of cod, please don't use txtspk here. This is not a mobile telephone.

Posting on an forum is not like playing a warrior...

You can't faceroll and expect to win.

First, look through the FAQs. Suprisingly, you are not the first one to have a thought, and chances are the question has already been answered.

If there is not answer in the FAQ, then make a post. Take the time to write a post that resembles some sort of language (you know.. with an attempt at spelling, grammar, punctuation) and flesh out an idea with information that will help people understand what you are asking.

That is how you pewpew on a forum.

I will ignore the vomit of text you hurled onto the page and try to answer the question. (Your lucky Theo didnt see this yet)

Combat Sword spec is the fastest leveling spec due to the fact that it has the highest DPS. Things die faster so you get hit less so you have less down time.

If you want to feel more sneaky and stealth around spec ShS. You will have more "oh ****" buttons to help you not die, but you will have less DPS and more down time eating to regain health. (Also most of the dagger talents ie: ambush, backstab, etc are less energy efficent for gaining combo points for finishers)

If anyone disagree's let me know. This is just my whole feeling on the subject.

If you want good answers dont type like a 12 year old on a cell phone.

IDK, I R SuPR SMRT :P

there are a couple reasons not to use daggers. and a couple times when they are good.

the main reason has to do with the fact that the amount of damage you do is partially based on weapon speed. instant attacks have a locked speed on them though. when using daggers your sinister strike will have a locked speed of 1.7, but for all other 1h weapons your instant attack speed is normalized to 2.4. This makes a big difference in the amount of damage you can deliver.
also, as your levelling, its harder to find good itemization of daggers until outlands, but its easier to find swords and maces. this makes it easier to always have a high dps weapon.

now i know losing ambush and backstab can suck a little, but the idea with combat swords is you open with garrote or cheap shot, spam sinister strike, then use eviscerate. the idea is to spam damage and kill stuff fast.

now other builds can be viable, but not at early levels. shs can be decent when you get it, but i wouldnt reccomend it until you get to lv 35 minimum so you can get the 10% attack power boost. 50 would be best cause you also get an agi boost.
shs is really best for pvp, its not too great in instances as you have to spend most of your CPs on slice and dice, but you have more burst damage, every couple minutes.
mutilate has 2 builds you can use. you can do burst mutilate around 55 and pull it off well. you need 2 daggers for this though so you use heavy daggers. you go down 41 points into assassination to get mutilate and then you go 5/5 opportunity from the sub tree. you can then choose to go down sub or combat, personally i chose sub for more CP generation and the ambush crit rate (nice in pvp and instances). this is a good spec for levelling in outlands because you have a lot of stunlock control and you dont get hit as much because the target spends over half the fight stunned. it does very poorly on multiple mobs though, while combat swords can easily hack down 3-5 monsters if their cooldowns are ready and they accidently get a link.

combat mutilate is really good around 68-70. your mutilates arent as bursty, which isnt as good for pvp and some solo situations, but for instance grinding its much better as you can get dual wield specialization for a LOT of extra damage.

so the whole point of this, is that swords are the easiest thing to level with, and while there are other options, generally your going to get the best results with dual swords (or maces/fists). run a dps meter like swstats to see what your effective dps is, then switch specs and see how you can do. as a rogue doing more damage will always benefit you so high dps should be your priority for PVE.

Would it make you feel better if I told you I have a low level undead as well? Or perhaps a belf?

And yes, perception is my friend.
#16REDACTED, Posted: May 28 2008 at 2:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I will also vouch for combat swords. They work wonders. Only thing is. I kill things so fast I don't have time to really put down a combo. I open with garrote, then SS,SS eviserate. By the time I get the first SS off the mob usually dies or has like 2% health. So I just throw a kick in there or gouge him.

One thing about perception is that if the person you are dueling is sub specced. Perception doesn't always work. I wouldn't really know anything if it wasn't for the players on the forums. Hell I've already been called mentally retarted from theo and lived to tell the tale. XD

I must be special then, since I've ALWAYS been able to see the other person. Sub or not, etc.

Then again, I'm not the type of rogue that stands still and faces one direction.

And I was right to call you mentally retarded.

Perception gives you +50 to your stealth detection stat. MoD gives you +15.

Yeah, if you're anywhere within ~40 yards, you're gonna be seen unless you use Vanish.

I still have alot to learn. Right now I'm going to go feed myself to hogger. I didn't know about vanish and my rogue just got it. Sorry for the misinformation. Yeah guess I am mentally retarted theo. While I'm at hogger I'll have my brain examined.

I actually enjoy Assassination instead of Combat. While its not good on multiple mob's. (No blade flurry) I found combat to have more downtime than Assassination while leveling. Also the new change's of Imp backstab to Puncturing Wounds(15% crit increase on mutilate) have made it a pretty viable alternative to Combat. I ran Combat for a long time, but when the change on that talent came around I figured I would try it. Never went back to combat, Assassination was just too fun.

There is a post floating around on the O-boards about it's DPS. (Supposedly within 1% of Combat swords) I think it was Agkelos that started the post on it. I'll have to go diging on the O-boards for it. It's not on the first few pages. (Go go nerf job xyz posts) I haven't had a chance to raid with Assassination yet. My rogue just hit 70 but I'll be popping that cherry this Wed.

woot! Thanks. Sadly, with all the sensitive ladies who usually post on this board, I doubt that rating will hold for long. But it's fun while it lasts. Cheers!
