Hey guys, I just had a question that I don't believe was covered in the stickies.

I'm normally Holy but spec over to prot a few times a week for some heroics/kara.

Following the stickies, I've got my 102.4% and 490 Defense but I have this question:

For end of kara tanking (prince) and the tougher heroics, what "pure" avoidance should I be aiming for?

Currently, I have about 52% pure avoidance (12% miss, just under 20% parry, just over 20% dodge) with another 52% Block (/w Holy Shield). These are rough figures as I am currently specced Holy for raiding.

Is this about right? Should I be looking for more or have I got too much already?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

50% total avoidance is a point around which I'm still being, tanking at hyjal level. As I had to work on spell damage and stamina, it has never been far above 50%.

But it is possible to drop a stat for another, and it seems important to have multiple sets to adapt to each fight. Block value set, mageladin set, total avoidance set, ...

So 50% is fine I believe, if your other stats are high.

Recently saw a druid with around 90% total avoidance, it makes feel bad, how high do you think paladins could be ? 70%? more?

I've basically picked up scraps of gear whilst raiding as holy so I have a mixture of ZA/KZ and random drops from T5 Raids.

My Spell dmg at the moment is around 350 with about 14k HP unbuffed. I seem to be fine doing kara and heroics.

Problem is that if I lose any avoidance I risk becoming crushable. From what I've read, I've stacked dodge and parry to reach uncrushable rather than block?

You're good.

Uncrushability is strange. It's easy to get there by stacking Block Rating in pre-raid gear, but your pure avoidence will suffer a little. After you reach uncrushable, you can start getting the nice gear that will replace much of that Block Rating with Dodge Rating. Generally you want to stay away from Parry Rating unless it's either extra on the item or a serious upgrade. Agility is better to stack than Parry in most cases.

By the time that you reach the END of Tier 4 level stuff and you're ready to move into SSC/TK you'll probably be running around 22% Dodge, 18% Parry, and 11% Miss. Conveniently, that puts you right where you are at ~50% +/- pure Avoidence.

This mostly stays still through Tier 5. You can push it a little higher by NOT rolling with 2 Stamina trinkets. 2 Stamina trinkets are great for a new encounter or something where you know you need more HP -- but if you have sufficient HP to soak up the hits with a bit of a safety zone, you should be swapping out that second Stamina trinket for an Avoidence trinket.

By late Tier 6 you push your pure Avoidence a little bit higher, but again -- the only time you reach real amazing numbers are when you run with Avoidence trinkets (and pop them for the extra boost).

Ahh thanks for that.

I am going with dodge and agility at the moment, the parry really just comes with my gear.

I'm still rolling with 2 avoidance trinkets at the moment cos if I drop either I become crushable. Once I upgrade a couple more pieces of gear I have the spyglass of hidden fleet waiting to make an entrance. That should boost my stam a little.

I guess right now, I'll just look for upgrades and swap gear in and out to maintain my avoidance and boost my stam. Still wearing the D3 shoulders (surprisingly good for a blue), gonna have to take maulgar down and grab some T4 ones.

Although I have to say that I'm unlikely to be tanking in any big raids anytime soon since my holy gear far exceeds my tank gear. It's fun at the weekends though when I just do heroic after heroic as tank :)

Cheers for the advice
