His damage per second (or rate of damage) is top.
The hunter is pretty good, though our VR runs nowadays is a tight dps contest between the 3 mages who we bring to the raid.
The other mage in your WWS is not doing too well, rotation is subpar.
I checked both your armories, in the space of a week and bit more its unlikely that the other mage can suddenly outgear you by so much. So I am thinking he is just messing around at VR. His current built cannot even cast pyro and he did that in the WWS.
You know what? I would like to see a WWS of you and him doing Leo the blind.
One of the mages in my guild was frost until she got her 2nd T5 and she went arcane. It's still a close fight between us and since our gear levels are similiar the damage dealt does tell a story.

Frost mages raiding to respectable damage.
Here is the kicker and how a frost mage tops fire mages raiding.
It's your elemental. While you have your elemental up, you and your elemental combined will usually out damage the fire mage.
You have to be smart with your little guy. You can't let him die by summoning him into a cave in. You have get every ounce of damage out of him that you can. You also have to use him early, coldsnap him back out at a good time and then hope he's resummonable before the end of the encounter.
You're little blue boy is your best friend. Treat him right and you'll be fine.

it certainly wouldn't hurt, in my own gear, only if the set bonus is +4 or +5spl damage will i consider matching the sockets, specialy if there red and yellow. Blue's sockets kinda hurt. But i'm also waiting for the epic gem vendor to open on my server (97% hurry up) and when i replace all my cheap gems im sure i'll be switching all to runed crimson spinels or reckless pyrestones.

i only recommend gemming purely spelldamage and/or haste once you have a good health pool and are hitcapped and have >>30% crit.
at lower gear levels (T4) this will not be the case. also, spellfire is very low on stats, so it may be worth it to get the some of the socket bonuses by using sta gems. a dead mage does zero dps.
at higher gear levels (T6/hyj/bt), there is so much hit and crit on the gear that there is no need for more of it and you can ignore socket boni and gear purely spelldamage and haste.
about the frost debate: frost is only viable if you have very high pet uptime. in high ae dmg fights (especially hyjal and bt) your pet will die before you can bat an eyelid. this will hurt your dps substantially.
arcane is competitive with 2T5, but you are even more reliant on external sources of mana (SP and JoW). and in sunwell, the gear is so far ahead of T5 that you start falling behind again.
One more gem questions guys, is it a good idea to use a combination of Rigid Lionseye with Runed Crimson Spinel in both the Spellfire gloves and robe?
The sockets are yellow and blue so I'd lose the +4stam socket bonus on both, but who cares, the firepower combined would raise my spell hit and spell dam. stats right?
I'am thinking this might be the way to go to get near the cap and do more damage.

You don't want Rigid anything, that is +10 hit, you want +10 spellhit which I am guessing is Great Lionseye.
