Fury PvP?Follow

#1 May 27 2008 at 2:01 PM Rating: Good
Hey. I am just getting back into WoW and I plan on playing my 70 warrior some more. He was geared for PvE (Fury) back in the day, and lots of his gear is still viable. I plan on PvPing on this go round, however. I heard somewhere that with the changes to Whirlwind, that PvP is possible with Fury now. Is this true? Also, which stats would a pvp fury warrior want to go for? Same old crit and ap? Which is more important?

Thanks for your input and help on getting me back up to date.

I would absolutely LOVE for Fury to be viable in PvP .. but with the insane HoTs and quick, almost instant heals around, the small numbers that you will deal with Fury are just so badly negated, it's almost 100% not worth it. (An opponent with a HoT up from a druid or priest will pretty much soak up your first 3-4 seconds of DW damage, essentially making your opening burst and absolute waste)

Fair enough, there a a lot of those small number, and they come quickly, but that exactly why it's a great spec for raiding .. .lots of numbers, constantly and quickly = large sustained DPS - provided you can deliver a constant stream of those numbers, which you can against a boss .. .but not so against another player.

Why ??? ... becuase the other player is not standing still, focussing on a tank, letting you hit him. You will be in range for brief moments, and in those brief moments, you want to deal as much damage as possible ... burst damage. For that, you need a 2 handed weapon, and to make that really effective ... you need Mortal Strike.

The biggest difference between old school Fury and today is the existance of Resilience ... crits are practically worthless now, and the king of stats is Resilience, followed closely by Stamina. The focus has changed from dealing damage to being survivable ... he who lasts longest, wins ... simple as that.

All that being said, it does depend on what PvP you plan on doing ... if it's running around BG's, then I actually think you could probably get away with Fury .. maybe 2h fury, but I'm not expert (or even fan) of that. THe thing is that in the BG's, the focus is a little less on helping your buddies survive and more on farming honor and HK's, which means that if you are able to corner that poort, helpless 'lock or Rogue, you can melt away their health without worrying about them being helped / healed by a buddy. Stay away from healing classes though, cos you'll cry then.

However, when it comes to Arena's ... your biggest tool is Mortal Strike, and not because of the damage it does (although it does a fair bit), but because of the -50% healing debuff ... your goal is to ensure MS is up on all the opposing team members ... it just makes it that much harder for their healers (that being said, I've have a druid at 1/4 health once, with MS applied, and he healed himself to full with one heal :-< .. ******* )

And to answer your first question ... the fact that WW hits with the off hand simply means that every 9 seconds, you'll deal around 200 more damage ... not really specifically gonna help you in PvP .. it does more damage, sure, but nowhere near the damage a 2 hander will (remember, you can also WW with a 2 hander, on that hurts a lot)
