Not good enough?!Follow

#1 May 27 2008 at 1:05 PM Rating: Good
Been browsing these forums for ages now but this is the first time I felt compelled to post. Might be a bit whingy but I am genuinely curious?

Joined a group for Heroic SV tonight and after the first 2 mobs the healer said my gear was not good enough and left. Sure I am still wearing a few greens but going by Beimba I am more than ready for heroics!

Feel free to check me on Armory http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Quel%27Thalas&n=Bawbag or Beimba http://be.imba.hu/

I know I need to upgrade LOTS but everyone else was happy to keep going. Problem was that we couldnt find another healer. It was my first heroic so I am not sure what her problem was but I know I would have considered leaving if she had said something. She just slammed my gear then left. I didnt even get the chance.

At what point did you guys start heroics? And were you as sucky as me?

Cheers for letting me cry on your shoulders lol. There were two guildies in the run and they said to just get over it but it really annoyed me.

Edited for links.

Beimba is garbage. In your clefthoof gear, there are really only 3 stats you should have; +Stam gems, +Agi gems, and +Defense rating gems. Be imba doesn't look at what enchants/gems/gear you have, it just checks what i-level your gear is, if it's enchanted, and if the sockets are filled.

Get Umberhowl's Collar, it's an easy quest chain with maybe a couple group steps.

And to answer your original question, I thought I was ready for heroics when I couldn't get another upgrade from solo quests, group quests, or non-heroics. www.emmerald.net is the feral druid gear bible, for your gear level, use the "Bear Mitigation" tables. The "Bear High-Gear Mitigation" assumes much higher base stats, around T5-level.

Cool thanks. Can be imba really be that far out though? It has me listed at the top end of heroics so I would have thought it cant be that far off.

I will def go for the Collar cause it looks better than the tripe I have on. Problem is I hate BG's so the Emerald.net looks a bit daunting. I will just have to stick with guildies who wont bail after the first 2 mobs.

Thanks mate.

You can get PvP gear to tank with, but it's not required. The only slot where you can't get a goot item from PvE is your shoulders.

And yes, be-imba can be that far off. Different classes, even different specs for each class can have vastly different priorities for stats. If you look at emmerald's list, all the items have their i-level listed. You'll see some blues ahead of some epics, and some low-level epics ahead of some high level epics. If you look at belts, Manimal's Cinch (a green) even beats out some epics.

If you're logged out in your tanking gear, then I agree you're not ready for heroics. With the SMV greens/blues like Umberhowl's Collar and Manimal's Cinch it's not like us druids need to be all purple'd out, but you've got AH greens at too many slots. And you're not uncrittable, which is mandatory for tanking heroics.

What are your key stats in bear form, just self-buffed with no consumables? Armor, HP, Def Rating, Dodge. You should be in the ballpark of low 20s, 13k, uncrittable, (that's 415, but less with resilience in the equation) and 27-28%, respectively.

Your hat, shoulders, cloak, bracers, and rings are "substandard" to put it politely. And you need to re-enchant some stuff too, now or after you get some upgrades. here's my two cents on your path of least resistance to heroic readiness:

  • Shopping: There's some very good craftable options for some slots, just a matter of money in the AH. Get yourself a Stylin' Purple Hat and Necklace of the Deep.
  • Questing: Get Umberhowl's Collar and Verdant Gloves from the relevant SMV quest chains. Both are big upgrades from what you have and easily accessible...just some 5-man quests near the ends of the chains. Cloak of the Valiant Defender is a serviceable cloak MUCH better than what you have, quest reward from Ar'kelos the Guardian.
  • Rings: You need at least one of the armor rings that are available. One drops in the chest after Nazan/Vazruden at end of Ramparts, one drops off Drake in Old Hillsbrad. In the meantime I'd buy a Delicate Eternium Ring and socket dual +8 agility to up your dodge.
  • Trinkets: Badge of Tenacity FTW, obviously, but your second should be somethign with def or armor or dodge. A popular easy/early option is Adamantine Figurine out of Slabs.
  • Enchants: Get +6 stats for your heavy clefthoof vest. Get +35 agility for your Braxxis Staff of Slumber. You'll be in both pieces long enough to justify the investment. Agility on the hands, too...240 armor is nothin in context of the 20k you should be around. Read up on the glyphs/inscriptions available for head and shoulders, too, you need them. Keepers of Time for head and Aldor (in your case) for shoulders.

Astarin mentioned Emmerald's lists which are excellent. On Emmerald's forum though is a thread called How to gear your Bear before raiding which is your one-stop shop for gearing yourself quickly & easily for tanking in Kara & heroics.

I've been level 70 for about 3 weeks now. I did a lot of preparing with enchants, gems, mats etc, before I was 70 but everything I have on with the exception of the gloves (which you can switch with the pvp gloves) can be gotten from quests/crafting/pvp. Easily making you uncrittable and ready for heroics. I am sitting just barely at uncrittable now because I switched a glyph and gems to maximize stats as long as I could stay uncrittable, but here ya go.

I have taken on board all the helpfull comments on here and when I looked into the umberhowls collar I realised I had already started the quest series for it. So I have to kill the BE junkie guy then head back to Shat I think. Then on to the group ones.

I have also read through most of the links you good guys left me and will be looking for guildies to maybe help with some runs through a few dungeons. I say guildies because if the drop I want comes after running it a few times I really dont want to have to roll for it haha.

I also dropped the +crit gems and have broken the 400 mark for defense with a few +defense gems instead.

My alt is an enchanter but only lvl 40 and 300 skill. Anything he cant mail me I should be able to buy from GV. So am working on the enchants too.

Thanks again guys you have really helped a lot. I was too busy worrying about Armour and Hit Points that I neglected agi and defense. Now I know where to aim for and that maybe I was a bit quick to head down the heroics.

Still think the original healer jumped a bit quick though ;)
